help with mapping please
ok i am looking to start a freash mapping for my hercules steel
what i want to do is when "shift" is lit up i want to be able to use the kill switches and bass, med, treb for effects 1,2,3 same on both sides of the deck
and when shift is not lit up i want them to just control eq as normal with kill switches
so i have noidea what this is called or how you do it but there are alot of people who have been here and are good at this so if anyone could help would be great

I don't have a Hercules, but I'm going to assume that when you press the Shift key it changes the messages the buttons send.
If that's the case then just program the buttons when the shift key is held to do whatever you want like you would any other command.
If it doesn't change the messages but sends its own MIDI message when pressed then program it as a Modifier and then program the modifiers for the buttons.

Hey check this out. it's pretty basic but it's the best way I can describe it. also check the site, Ean has done some great articles about modifiers. You will find that with modifiers and mapping sometimes common sense makes the most well um... sense. Remember that you can piggy back midi messages together. like the knob can work as the on button so that way you save space on the steel.
Good luck, I hope the video helps.

i really cant figure this out and the worst part is i know its really simple

You're on the right track Casso, Modifiers are the way to go
You want to set the modifier so when it reads zero the Eqs are Eqs
When it's set to 1 the Eqs can then be reassigned to do whatever you want
And adding another layer is easy too this way, I reuse the Eq knobs and buttons on my BCD to control loops and jumps aswell when the modifier is at 2 for example in a 4 deck setup with other modifiers so I can switch deck views and stuff.
Keep it simple and methodical when you're mapping it out and it'll start to make sense in no time m8.

Agree! Just dive into it, read Ean's articles and follow that short video, all you have to do is dive in and you'll get it.
