Yeah but Italians are food nazis. They have a strict doctrine on what should and shouldn't be done with food. They make good,solid, standard fare, but they don't do experimentation, which Is one of my favorite things about eating.

well, that is partly true, partly not.
There are the so called "regional kitchens" which, as you say, are very traditional... but there is also a fusion movement taking over (of course, only mediterranean ingredients).

I'm up for the research and I suggest

- linguine with swordfish, "taggiasche" olives, basil and aubergines (this is still pretty traditional)
- garganelli with roman pecorino, white wine, thyme and onion jam

if somebody wants the receipts, i'll be more than happy to send them over

I'm firmly in the 'no pineapple on pizzas' camp which is far less camper than the 'pinapple on pizzas camp' and tidier too.

For far too long the abuse of pizzas has gone unchecked with crazy deep pan, stuffed crust, SQUARE and all manner of unsuitable chavvy toppings in cluding burgers, baked beans, bar-b-q chicken and of course pineapple.

I'm sure that if Raffaele Esposito of Naples, inventor of the pizza, were alive today he would be spitting anchovies and crying into is dough bread at the thought of individuals disrespecting his savoury snack by piling all kinds of unsuitable shite on it.

Mmmmmmmm maybe you can make those dishes for me and my girlfriend next year.
We are planning to go Backpacking around Italy next Easter.

I did it when i was a teenager and we were thinking what to to next Easter (we always visit a European City and spend a fortune) and we though why not do something different.

My g/f has never been to Italy so i suggested that instead of the comfy hotels we usually stay in we should have a small adventure.

No exact plans but we wanna get all over Italy, probably doing the more touristy type things but its exciting.

*still laughing at the word 'pecorino', we use it as a word for penis*
