However i did a mistake on the 1996 mix. And that was that all the tracks except for GZA - Shadowboxin' was released in 1996. That track was actually released in 1995. I was probably checking some site where they showed the release date for a specific country or something or i had a brain fart.

its not that im a fan but that im still in the biggie, 2pac, de la soul typical loop that i dont tend to go outside since its all i really know. i do onli rate hip-hip on whats on the radio nowadays i must admit as i have my own radio show so alot of my time spent in searching for EDM music goes into that every week 2 keep updated in my genre.
had a de la soul mix tape that realli inspired me to get into djing with it for fun by myself but realli i didnt have the first clue in were to begin names, styles of hip hop etc

it was the guns, bling and bitches kinda thing that held me back as well from gettin back into it as well becuase it made me cringe the much people over here listening to hip hop/rap tunes thinking they are from the ghetto and they are living a gangsta life and pretending they were sumfing they were not and thinking they were living the lives of gangsta rappers lol

i am very intrested to know about the genre u play and wanting to get into what i would like to call 'proper' hip hop' lol (sounds stupid coming from me who barely knows a thing about the genre but its what i call it lol) any forums or sites that u can lead me too or even downloading music sites u can link me too which i can listen to and even buy some tunes? and is there much sub genres in hip/hop? if so whats your style?

realli liked your way of mixing as well. very different from my genre which i knew already and its something i want to try and get a grasp at for myself.

ohh and if u have any longer mixes post them up. i downloaded initally cus it was 10 minutes but then once i heard them its not enough lol
    thanks wants again man

The guns the bling and the bitches is one major turn off for a lot of people, and for others its a really "cool" thing they try to copy, its bad either way. However i must admit there are some so called "gangsta" tracks/rappers i really like, but i will never try to be something im not.

There are like a lot of sub-genres in hip hop. if you look at the American type of hip hop, you got the east/west coast, the dirty south and thats just geographical directions. Then you got sub-genres of those locations as well, like crunk (lil jon) and so on. If you really want to knock yourself out in digging in the whole genre thing you can go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_hip_hop_genres and read more. Im in no way an expert on the subject so i advice you to go there.

For me proper hip hop doesn't come from a specific country or year. For me its more about the feeling you get when you listen to it and if the artist put some effort into the track. There is still a lot of superb hip hop being made that doesn't succumb to the latest fads such as auto-tune. The biggest problem is where to find it, i have problem with this as well.

My personal style is probably leaning towards the east-coast rap when it comes to American rap. I tend to listen more to east-coast rappers than west-coast. I like Notorious B.I.G more than i like 2pac and since there might be fan boys lurking around on this forum i have to say that i love 2pac i just love biggie a little bit more Usually the type of hip hop i like is in the 88bpm or above area

So if you like De la soul you will like A Tribe Called Quest and a personal favorite of mine is Big L

If you have access to Spotify use the similar artist feature in it. Its a huge help for me when my brain runs dry on what to listen to. I also recommend going to sites like amazon.com and go to their music section and look what they have listed as Top hip hop albums of 1995 or what else you might be looking for. This is the easiest way to find music that you more than likely will enjoy. Start with one group/genre/year and work yourself from that position, that is the best tip i can give you.

I have longer mixes but nothing i want to upload, i don't consider them good. I have only been dj-ing for little over a year and it was just recently that i started to become decent at it. Took like 6months before anything started to sound even remotely like mixing.

Im working with a 1995 10min mix that should be done soon and i will upload that one once im happy with it. I can put together a longer mix for you after im done with the 1995 thing. Any specific time length you want? Oh and what type of radio show do you have and what type of music do you mix since my way of mixing was so different from yours.

cheers for all the info man. will definatly check it all out. have heard fo a tribe called Quest have some of there stuff on cd actually any length of time you would feel comfortable with . as long as you possibly can so i can just play it when im chilling out in the house with my mates with a couple of beers I have a weekly radio show which is house techno and trance and the mixing is different in that mixing in EDM is usually more gradual mixing than fast paced cutting and scratching in another record at a certain point which is really does work with hip hop but not so much with most EDM genres. keep up the good work anyways.

wat equipment and software programme do you use while mixing out of curiousity??

    Thanks again for the feedback

I use a Vci-300 with itch 1.5 and that is the latest beta of itch. I dont have the vfx thing for the vci so i cant use any effects. Its probably good that there isnt any effects since im still learning how to dj. I sometimes go in and change the levels afterwards in some audio editing program if i messed up somewhere. And i usually mess up a lot and i do a lot of re-runs.

I listen to a lot of electronic music as well usually minimal techno or things that sound similar to that, will probably throw together a 10min eletronic mix sometime in the future.

I will go for like a 1hour mix or somewhere around there. Gonna have some kind of a theme/line through the whole mix, since throwing random tracks together never really was my thing anyway. Got some ideas already since i kinda know what you like now

A little mix I threw together late last year. I plan to add the playlist to SoundCloud shortly.
