    To each their own. As long as I am the one doing the load in/out, I have no worries. I take reasonable care with my gear, but there are still some minor bumps along the way and through the years. Even a Rubbermaid bins with some foam bits are sufficient for my handling. YMMV.

    Saddly the term "flight case" covers a WIDE range of build quality and protection.

    If you are actually "flying" with the case as "checked baggage" there is Pelican, higher end SKB, ATA, and a handful of others that are "good." I would not trust anything less to baggage handlers.

    I would have no hesitation in modding one of these for a decent gear bag:



    (I think FreQ Nasty used to do it, actually...)

    I have a salvaged gas-fitter's toolbox (Its like a big wheeled suitcase but I think it could survive a nuke) that I gutted out and replaced with flight case foam for my gear. I joke that it'd be perfect for boiler room sets...
