Finally updated to FW 1.3 this week after having the kit for about a year (lazy).

Used the same Maplins USB-Serial cable and it worked first time no issues.

Checked the COM Port in Device Manager and that was it.

Also took my jogwheels to pieces and cleaned them.

All with the DJTTs tutorial videos... Cheers Guys.

Got my firmware upgrade and overlay today, took a while but got 1.3 installed and it's so good to have all the extra functions, even the fabled 4th effect button! Looks sweet with the overlay too

Thanks to Alex.Ketch for your post, I had all the same issues and it saved me a lot of time.

Now I'm the proud owner of a VCi-100 SE!

Default upgrade from 1.1 to 1.3 firmware

I 've got a simple question. I have firmware 1.1 and really want to upgrade to ver.1.3 (using ordinary VCI 100 - silver edition) Is your upgrade kit for 25 $ can help me make a jump from 1.1 to 1.3?
    Thanx

Yes, you have to have that kit to do the upgrade.

another failure on my part here.anyone got any advice?

firstly tried usb-serial with time delay, in all different usb ports and no luck, i was either gettign timeouts or did not boot errors.

so i sacked that idea, went and got a serial-serial and used a friends computer. when i ran renesas it seemed to work.... went through the process, said process complete in green writing (or something like that) and then a pop up came up from windows saying 'renesas encountered a problem etc etc, send report, dont send report' (the one that comes up normally when a programme is not responding) so i tried to run it again.. same thing happened.

put it back together to see if the firmware worked and the jog were red, but the toggle button was doing nothing. took it apart... ran the programme again and it dont the same. 'upgrade complete' 'renesas encountered a problem' and the programme closed.

now when i turn the vci on there no power to it at all.

does anyone have any advice that i can try next?

I think you need to try a different cable.

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=97735 < thats the cable i used the second time.

seemed like the cable was fine because it ran through the flash... just as soon as it completed it said renesas had a problem and shut down. would the cable cause that?
