Success with MacBook
Very pleased and relieved.
Have successfully upgraded firmware using Macbook Pro, Parallels 5 and USB to serial cable.
BIG thanks to Alex.Kitsch (see his post) for the necessary instructions. I too ran into the exact same difficulties, but his steps proved to be the answer.
By following EanGolden's video and using Alex's help, Mac is possible!

Followed the video instructions and got it on 1st try (just had to try different COM ports until I got the right one, COM4 in my case).
I was on XP SP2 and used a Rosewill 2-port Serial PCI adapter model RC-301 and a DB-9 M/F serial cable.
WooHoo!!!

I got it done on the first try.
Im running on windows 7 and the best way to go is to use a serial to serial wire. The Serial to USB wire is a PITA!!!

I successfully upgraded my firmware using a native install of Windows on a Dell laptop and a USB to Serial cable.
In order to make it work, I had to follow the DJTT instructions on "using a USB to serial cable"
I also had to change the USB-serial's COM port to 3. My computer said this would be a conflict, but it worked anyway. I tried it because the USB-Serial cable was not working on COM port 11.
I encountered some trouble removing the cable harness in order to attach the DJTT firmware upgrader adapter. I was reeeeally paranoid of damaging the VCI. At first I tried attaching the DJTT adapter without removing the harness, but that didn't work. Eventually I just gritted my teeth and wiggled that damn thing until it came off. It was attached quite tightly! I was very relieved when it came off without damaging anything else.
Now I'm upgraded to FW 1.3, and the added functionality is totally worth it.

new home mod SE family member!
I've had a VCI-100 1.2 (silver) for just under a year.
Last month I ordered my overlay and upgrade kit.
Received the goods last week...if you're in the UK customs charges are £12 when you collect from Royal Mail. realised I needed to use a serial to serial cable. Myself and no one I know have a serial connection on their computers.
So off to Maplin. I thought I'd take the risk and challenge of trying to use a USB to serial. £14.99 at Maplin.
I'm using a DELL XPS 1530, Windows 7. Followed all the instructions in the video, port 3 was automatically assigned but came back with the error.
I made my way through the COM's and success on COM 5.
The overlay was easy to put on, and doesnt look that bad with the silver plates...I'm happy
Thanks DJ TechTools!

Hi,
I have a macbook pro, traktor pro 1.2.6, audio dj 2, VCI 100.
I upgraded to version 1.3, works fine, but there are two things that don't work.
1. blue LEDs don't work
2. when active function loop, sync out
Sorry for my bad English, I hope it is able to explain
Thanks for the reply

I used win xp sp2 and the unbranded "USB Serial Converter" from Maplin electronics UK. http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=29968
The one i bought in-store had blue connectors with a silver cable.
After installing the drivers from the disk provided then restarting, it was still showing a driver error, so i went into device manager and reinstalled the driver from there, using the provided cd and it worked fine.
It defaulted to com5 (i checked first in device manager), but i had to restart Renesas in order for it to show in the drop down.
Once that was ok, and i very carefully followed all the video steps, it worked perfectly 1st time!
After testing, all the faderfx work propperly now and it is a dream to use.
There is the odd bug but thats a mapping thing.
