Book Recommendation Thread

I know it's a really old book, but if you haven't read George Orwell's 1984, then I don't know what your doing with your life.

Really though. Read it.

I'm almost done with Catch 22. The first 100 pages make practically no sense whatsoever, and then it all starts to conform into this amazingly depressing and overwhelming tale of a bunch of bomber pilots in World War II. It's an amazing story.

I would recommend anything by Kurt Vonnegut. After you read a few of his books they all kind of resemble each other, but Slaughterhouse 5, Breakfast of Champions and Cat's Cradle are amazing books.

Also, for the masochists out there, read The Canterbury Tales in the middle English so I can have someone to talk to about it.

The dark tower series by Stephen King is amazing.
Also, the His Dark Material series by Phillip Pullman are great. One was pretty recently made into a movie (which didn't do the book justice at all...)
The vampire books by Anne Rice are also good.

The Motorcycle Diaries - Ernesto Guevara de la Serna (one of the most amazing books i've ever read)

Jack London - Call of the Wild (Everybody should have already read this by now)

Ender's Game - Orson Scott Card (Brilliant, and the only fiction work on my list)

Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas - Hunter S. Thompson (A fellow Kentuckian's Best Work)

And a big +1 for Orwell and Bradbury.
