I'm sure the 5s would have enough output but think I'll go for the 6s just so I can put off getting a sub for a little while. My ears would learn to compensate but trying to future proof a bit too.

Yep plan on having them at ear level. At this stage was thinking some milk crates with some foam on top, beneath the monitor. I know this is a cheapo option.. is it also pretty stupid?

No it's cool Just don't party in your room and you will be fine !
Just make sure it's stable, seeing your investment going slowmo' towards the ground is not something you want that's all :P

ah yes haha, that is very true. had a few hairy moments with beer on the laptop, only symptom so far (touch wood) is a few sticky keys
