    Default How to paint your vci case?

    For those who have painted / modded a VCI-100 case, I need some advice...

    Did you sand off the existing finish completely before adding the primer? Or did you just paint right over it?

    I think you can do both.
    here's a post with pics of a sandblasted case;
    http://www.djtechtools.com/forum/sho...arcade+buttons.

    But if you want to do a arcadebutton mod, you don't have sandblast,
    because I think maybe there will be soon overlays for the arcade button mod.
    but not sure about that.
    have a look here;

    And if you just want to change the colour of your housing, you can make the black/silver paint
    rough with some sandpaper, and spray it in any colour you like.

    Thank you kind sir!!!

    I've already started my arcade mod. I had a machinist cut me out a replacement overlay plate for the buttons. (It looks exactly like the the original VCI plate, except it has round buttons.) I think I'm just gonna scuff it up, lay etch primer and then paint it. I'll post pics soon...

    Default Do I need to prime the case before spray painting?

    Will the spray paint adhere if I sand the case first, but don't use any primer? It is gloss protective enamel (not sure if that matters)?

    I am doing mine now, I sanded the original coat, and then have sprayed a coat of primer and am doing 2 coats of spray paint, pulling an all nighter job is going to suck tomorrow (lol have to go in at 7:30am) hopefully I will have these up for you all tonight, it depends on how long I let everything dry for before putting it back together.

    Here's a nice pdf I found explaining how to paint PC cases which I believe is very similar to painting the VCI case... or any housing case for that matter...

    I found it off of a computer modding forum.

    ftp://ftp.sybex.com/4360/4360ch08.pdf

    Just a FYI...
