3 bytes. E0 ** **. It MIGHT be that the E0 message itself doesn't mean anything, but Itch looks for the presence of the message and it's timestamp. The reason I think that might be the case is because I would expect that the number of ticks per rotation would be the same no matter how fast the platter was turned. That's obviously not the case with the B0 message.Still I don't like the idea of discarding the other two bytes without knowing what they mean.
Now filter out the B0 message and do the same thing again. Is the count more consistent, giving roughly 3000 counts per single revolution? Don't look at the content of the message, only for the PRESENCE of a message.
