Which bar is that? I'm not one for top40, but I might drop by if I'm in the area
Also I guess scouting the location and asking the current Guy for some tips may not be an option (if they even have one at the moment).

Whatever remixing your doing,
I'd have a dirty version of the the originals on hand. I don't live in Paris, but when people wanna here songs around here it better be the god damn original, i'm telling you. haha.
10 to 5 is a while.
Id have a set early in the night that would have most of the songs straight up and when everyone gets good and going throw of the remixs.
I think its cool to replay top 40's every 3 hours if thats what they ask for.

It's called "Le Dock" and is near Opéra.
They have a few DJs, don't know how many. Like I said, I'm not usually up for DJing that kind of night, but am feeling like a change and it seems quite funny there.
Have to force myself into cheesy top 40 mode though, it's hard hard hard. I can do it, I can do it.
I usually alternate between more electro based poppy stuff and some electro stuff that I like but is similar in style to some of the poppy stuff. For example, Blowin Up - Gigi Barocco, or the Bodybangers 2k remix of What is Love, stuff like that. I usually have about a 70-30 balance of pop to electro at the start (more pop while the night is young and people haven't warmed up yet) and then go about 40-60 towards the end.
And by "pop" I mainly mean the 4 on the floor pop stuff coming out these days (ie david guetta, benny benassi, even afrojack has some pop stuff) or electro remixes of them.
Good luck!
Secret to top 40's DJing: find remixes to the songs, apply Fatman Scoop liberally, drop everything on the one, make sure to do tons of shoutouts to hype the crowd up
Seriously though if it's just a job to you and not something where you are looking to get overly artistic and creative just go over to crooklyn clan and check out some of the remixes, transitions, intros, etc... they got over there. I mean, you'll sound like every other top40's DJ...but every top40's DJ sounds the same to everyone on the floor dancing anyway. They just want to hear the same shit they've been hearing on the radio, which i'm not hating on at all, just something to remember. Actually dutch house remixes of songs seem to be really popular right now. They're really high energy and has a good swing so it gets people dancing.
Ive djed at many 18ths for my friends, and so they want just the club bangers and top 40, but heres the stuff that gets them all going..

When faced with requests for "Top 40" that last longer than an hour (or so)...I look to the Billboard Top 100 list...and a couple other lists they keep.
There are a lot of ways to find more than 40 "Top 40" style songs. Look at the Top 100 list, and find songs that are climbing fast, but not yet in the Top 40. Look at the Top 40 charts for the last year (or so) and find good songs that were on the list, but have fallen off. Look for the "next" single from artists that are on the current Top 40.
What I would specifically avoid are remixes and mashups of Top 40 songs. That is NOT what the crowd at a "Top 40" club wants to hear.

I DJ in a top 40 bar every week, heres some tips that work for me and the crowd:
1. Get extended club mixes, essentially the radio edit with an intro and outro so you can mix easier.
2. Try to play 3-5 songs of a genre and rotate through, eg, hip hop, pop, dance, rock and repeat (depending on the crowd there is lots of room to manover, this just gives you a guide)
3. Check out the top 40 chart of the country you are playing in, as well as the American and BBC 1 radio playlists
4. If possible some charts let you look at what was in the top 40 in weeks prior sometimes up to years, sometimes I will just pick a year, say 2007, and play a whole lot of songs that were popular then. People most likely would not have heard them in a while and will enjoy hearing them again.
5. Get ready for requests, you will get them a lot in a top 40 bar
There are some tips, hope they help and you rock the place
