I am dj since 98-99, I grew up with vinyl, I went to record stores... I played 30 records in one hour. I loved to browse my vinyl case. I have two releases on vinyl.

Tese days, record stores are closed, music is changed, no more vinyl releases...

Now I am a digital dj, I keep pushing buttons, I am good in that too, but i cant get used to digital stuff. Its like, soulless, plastic, unnatural for me.

I can't get over the vinyl!
    Heeelp
Have you tryed a combined setup? 2 cdjs + 1 or 2 TTs? All the music you cant get on vinyl you can burn it on cds. Which obviously is not the same as vinyl, but still you need to do almost the same rutine as on vinyl.

There are many djs which are know as "vinyl" only and their solution to the problem of not having availability of tracks is normally resolved this way...

Still you can get the really cool releases on vinyl online and the rest on cds...
After trying many softwares controllers and interfaces I am happy to just play this way without a laptop, personally it gives me a huge gratification to play this way.

Yeah been rocking this way for the last 2 years....but for me it feels weird.
i dont know, it's just i dont feel at best mixing 2 mediums together...the control is just different, the sound is another subject.
i love to have 2 CDJ & 2 TT setup, but wont mixmatch those two at any given time...

I'm with you, I love the vinyl but it is so hard to find good vinyl these days and it just doesn't feel right mixing mediums...to me that is like an artist using charcoal and oil paints at the same time; it just doesn't mix well to me.

I think us old school DJs are in the minority, and always will be, but in order to compete we have to adjust; which is to answer all the "why switch?" questions posted in this thread. We make do with what we HAVE to in order to survive...survival of the fittest and adaptation apply to DJs as well as the animal kingdom

^ LOL animal kingdom...well it's all about business nowadays :P
I'm enjoying my 'rare species' category though, since i dont actually play for a crowd but myself in the bedroom (and my music choices is outdated at best, people wouldn't know it & probably hated it)...being old-fashioned, i dont think i'll have the need to outdo anyone...of course some odd parties are welcomed (even though tracklist is another problem when normal people refuses to listen to anything but pop music)...oh well

Vinyl vs. digital depends on the styles you play. The more mainstream EDM is pretty much all digital but many of the fringe elements are still 100% vinyl. I use a DVS (Traktor) but all of my music is either vinyl rips or tracks from artists via Soundcloud (or private).

These stores aren't exactly near you but they are much nearer to you than me. All are 100% vinyl, maybe you will find some music you like. I've ordered from most of them.

I think both Chemical Records and Surus are based in the UK, I get basically all my vinyl from Chemical, usually no problems at all (I'd wager 80-90% of the tunage I buy nowadays is on wax)

EDIT: Also, if there's stuff you can't get on vinyl, and you don't want to use CDs, you can always cut dubplates
