oh shit is it a 12mm? that sucks.

And is that dust cover thing only in the macbooks and not the pros, or is it not a problem with a 9.5mm drive?

idk if it is a difference between teh pros and the normal macbooks... i would venture to say that they are all very simmilarly constructed and would have the same parts?

it had nothing to do with the drive. literally i pulled the superdrive out like it was no big thang. (the screw by the fan was a bit of a bitch) but the caddy sits flush with the unibody frame in that spot but threres this little piece of plastic that i guess holds the superdrive (more) in place when its mounted if that makes any sense.... without that piece it woulad been a breeze (minus buying the 12mm drive : / )

I feel for you man. What are you gonna do, put the old drive in the optibay and SSD the original boot slot?

nah, i figured i needed a dedicated external anyways so im gonna keep the 1tb (as it fits in my old seagate external caddy- originally was 160gb hd in there) and grab teh 750 gb western digital blue and put it in the optibay slot with the SSD in teh boot slot once i get teh new drive in a few days.

slight hitch, but was planning on buying a dedicated external in the next month or so anyways..... so that solves that problem.

i also need a damn alan wrench to get those damn screws off the original drive -- gotta stop after work to pick one up. ill prob do the upgrade that way while im watiting for the new drive so then all it is is a quick HD swap when i get teh 750

Exactly the same drive I ordered, good call. I hope to have only good news to report when I get home for easter weekend and all the parts are (hopefully) waiting for me!

hmm.. so my machine has been running flawlessly since i did the SSD/HDD swap.. yet just encountered a slight snag...

i tried to open one of the movie files stored on the HDD in the optibay with quicktime and im getting an error that "the document ......... cannot be opened"

    any idea why?

no i havnt... good call... ill check that out..

btw. your mounting strategy is holding fantasticly. ive been using mine alot lately and its been getting jostled around... so i opened her up and it hasnt budged. lol

Edit : Flip 4 Mac and perian are installed ... have to reinstall VLC and will try that in a min

--- No dice on VLC.... my gut feels like cause im booting off the SSD, its not reading the 750gb hd... but i have ALL of my music... which is on that harddrive and wouldnt fit on teh ssd... so its gotta be able to get to the files somehow..
