Tech Wizard
DJay for Mac, iPad and now on the iPhone too!
I just tested DJay from Algoriddim on the iPhone.
It's a (paid) DJ mixing app initially on the Mac and iPad only. It's just been released on the iPhone (for $9.99) and so I gave it a try.
I won't provide a full review here but I'll just list what DJay does that other appz of its category can't do:
- Very well implemented access to the iPod Library with search
- Ultra-fast background import/analysis of the track while audio is playing
- Cueing with automatic waveform zoom-in
- Automatic and synced crossfader movement for scratching
- Automix with AirPlay support
All these features make of it, IMHO the first iOS app actually usable in a party.
And here's what it lacks:
- Support of Traktor/Serato meta-data (a feature already found on other iOS mixing appz like Red Bull BPM)
- More flexible pre-listening (currently based on the crossfader position)
- The ability to use AirPlay even when Automix is turned off
- Some FX (filter, gater and reverb would be just nice)
That of course will not replace your professional gear, but it'll certainly help out on an analog input as a backup in case of a computer crash.
It can also be used with a wireless audio adapter such as an AudioEngine in order to mix from any place wirelessly.
