    live hip hop and drum & bass drummers always know it, but rock, metal, blues, pop etc... the vast majority of these guys dont know what it is.

    i think the amen break is something that should be taught in a 5th grade music class. its a basic building block of several types of music and can show both how those types of music can be similar and different at the same time, and how one sample can be used and reused so many different ways.
    then you mention jungle, and how that sample can be chopped up and used in an infinite number of ways. i could give a lesson on this for 60+ minutes not including examples.
