Thoughts on 256kbs? As this is the standard iTunes bitrate and i just got a bonus of a £25 iTunes voucher from a happy client. =]
Compressing to any kind of mp3 greatly reduces the quality of the original recording. Even a 320 gets rid of 90% of the original data!
A 128 will sound awful next to a 320, a 192 not much better. Platinum notes or any other kind of post processing (exciters, e.q, etc) will not help either as the data is simply missing and cant be replaced.
320 is the minimum, FLAC is much better....
Its not even that, Platinum Notes reconverts the mp3 file into wav, then BACK into mp3 - major no-no. Only use platinum notes for archiving original source wav into mp3 if you must.
But general rule of thumb - *never* run an mp3 through Platinum Notes. You are just asking for your music to get watered down.
