Don't waste your money on a netbook or little ass computer Coming from a person who actually builds computers for people as a job I could only recommend 2 company's you should really consider if you're going to pay under 1000 for a laptop. And that's Dell and Asus. Sorry mac.... Just not a fan... AT ALL. Ill stick to my flash video and gaming. And the top laptop in my opinion at the moment will be Dells alienware m11x. They sell for $800. I haven't met one mac yet that can beat the alienware laptops. I am a graphic designer and game designer also, so they do all the above well. For music, holy shit can these beasts perform above and beyond. But remember they run windows.... So it only performs as good as you keep them clean. (Windows is nothing but a bug fest).

LOL at not being a Mac fan.
I'm not a Manchester United fan but I can't honestly say they aren't good.
I don't think the point is to have the most ultra amazing machine. The point is to have that us reliable and just works, mac or pc.
There are plenty of people with super-duper laptops that have issues with real time music applications.
Dunno much about Alienware Dells but I do know that Dell inpsiron/studio laptops aren't worth the plastic they are made from:

Eh? Mac laptops play flash video. We're not talking about an iphone or ipad here. You're a game developer and you're turning your back on apple completely.... might want to read this

Anyway that is off topic. The main thing is the last thing you said "(windows is nothing but a bug fest)".
Well OSX isnt so...
Also, you can run windows on a mac so you can cover both bases. Anyway, i'm gonna leave this thread now cause i'd hate to be "boring".
Good luck
CLUB OF JACKS - RELEASES >>TRAXSOURCE
Club of Jacks are a London based House & Garage production / DJ duo with releases on a number of underground labels including Plastik People Recordings, Blockhead Recordings, Hi Energy!, Pocket Jacks Trax, Soul Revolution Records and their own Club of Jacks imprint.
I'm using this:
http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-AS.../dp/B002LEXA64
Its an 11.6, 1.4 single core processor, comes with 2 gigs of ram, but more importantly it has 2 memory slots. I upgraded mine to 3 gigs of ram, downgraded the OS to XP, and then tuned the hell out of it. It runs Ableton and Serato just fine.

Yeah, thats kinda the point i was trying to make earlier.
It doesnt matter what the spec is, if it runs your application well then the jobs done.
I hear people complaining all the time "Ive got a Quad Core with 16mb of ram and im getting pops & crackles" . Yeah of course you have your probably using a shit soundcard and a shitty controller all with piss poor drivers.
Having massive testicles doesnt make you a better lover
The point is (taking Traktor for example) you can run Traktor on a Netbook, well done heres a big Hat with a badge on it...
Traktor will run badly on all kinds of machines and run well on many more but it wont run BETTER than it does on my Mac or someone elses PC for that matter.
It will only work to a certain standard and when that standard is met (like it is on my MBP) thats it. Done, finished. You can have your laptop that can do 3D rendering whilst playing HD video and Traktor all at the same time but your performance with Traktor is NOT better than mine.
All this big bollocked bravado about, dont tell me you cant run Traktor on a netbook stuff is the real boring bit in this thread. We all know it can be done, its whether you should bother that interests me.
I can do 100mph in my Classic Mini Cooper but is it a nice ride? No is it fuck that damn thing is rattling like the Space shuttle re-entering earths atmosphere and my girlfriend is clinging on for dear life shouting "slow down you stupid prick".
Im a show and tell kinda guy. You cant have Traktor run on a Netbook with 4 decks and have FX and Keylock all on with the same quality as i can with my MBP or someone else with their well tweaked PC. It just aint happening.
Prove it.
And if you cant use the program to its full potential then theres no point in pissing around with what are basically computers for womens handbags.
[no alcohol was drunk in the making of this thread]
Ok, well a littttlllleeee alcohol was drank in the making of mine. Maybe 8 pints.
Threads like this have solidified one thing in my mind, which has been tried and tested over numerous years:
No matter what the source, what medium, or what style - when it comes to DJing, there's always a wrong way to play other peoples music.
Ahhhh the humor in the ever evolving debates...in the past it was Technics vs. Vestax, CD vs. Vinyl, then Serato vs. Traktor, Mac vs. PC....
Now it's Netbook vs. Laptop lmao!
Imagine what the argument will be tomorrow!
