OK. So I'm really fucked off about this...
Basically I bought Ableton Live 7 Suite last week (educational version) and asked on the phone when i was finalising my order if I get a free upgrade to 8 with this, if so I will get it.. guy is like yeah. I ask again to make sure and hes like yeap.
... I go to download it and its $220US... I'm like W T F. Turns out I dont get the upgrade for free... its fucking BS cos if I'd known this I would have fucking waited of course....
So I well mad... but thers fuckall I can really do as what proof do I have... I didnt record the conversation. I sent an email saying all this shit but Havnt heard back...
Sucks ass cos I wont be able to get 8 for like 3 months now :[ and it will havecopst me nearly as much as if I hadnt even got the educational version :/

Are Ableton not offering a 'GRACE PERIOD' for people who buy A7 with in a certain time-frame so they get a Free Upgrade ?

Anyway where do you live? You only bought last week , take it back and demand the money back because you 'bought the wrong product' (even tho you didnt). You have 30 days in most countries to take shit back.
If the retailer says NO. Tell him that you will contact Ableton and tell them that their reseller is selling goods and misinforming customers . He wont want ABleton breathing down his neck.
Seriously dude you do not have to take this shit. You have redress here. He misold the goods.
And if your in the UK get on touch with you local Trading Standards Office , they will come down on him like a ton of bricks. If you dont know how to do this give me the details and i will ask about it cus i live with a Trading Standards Officer and she is like a fricking dog with a bone with this shit.
She got all kinds of crazy enforcement powers.
aaargh i get wound up about this kinda stuff. LETS SMASH HIS WINDOWS.

He ordered it over the phone...like I did (back when 6 and 7 came out) direct from Ableton themselves.
Not sure if he did it through Ableton...

Also, if you bought it with a credit card, or a debit card from a bank, you can demand a charge-back as they misinformed you as to the state of the product as you purchased it.
And Karlos, I know that with Guitar Center in the states, if I buy softare I can't return it if the box has been opened.

If he did it thru a shop hes still covered by a returns policy .
He may even be covered under whats called 'Distance Selling Rules'
When was 8 announced ? Yesterday or have people know about this for a while ?
