    Default [OT] Shenanigans

Sorry to jump in the middle of this DERAIL ATTACK, but I have a few thoughts about the original topic of this thread that I wanted to throw into the pot quickly. It seems like there are a few separate mini-discussions going on and they should probably be clearly addressed separately.

-“I want to post slightly scandalous pictures, why shouldn’t I be allowed to?”
It seems to me like the context is really important here. We would all agree that a thread of porn videos shouldn't exist anywhere on these forums, that's obviously "past" the line of appropriateness. Where the line specifically is is something that is for the moderators to decide, but I think it has already been pretty clearly established. A thread of “pictures of hot technically clothedwomen” is really pointless and ought not be on these forums. Like mentioned, there are plenty of other places on the internet for stuff like that. That being said, it’s also not like the occasional contextually funny picture post is a terrible thing.
Take the star wars thread for example. When someone makes a joke about star wars conventions, and then someone references a girl at a star wars convention, and finally someone links a funny picture of a star wars girl who’s wearing a Leia outfit because it’s funny at the time and it responds to something that someone said earlier– that’s hardly a big deal it seems. In my mind, if the picture isn’t offensive or insulting to anyone and its purpose is for laughs or something of that nature, then it will usually be ok. If the picture is for the purpose of “damn this woman is hot!”, then, well, you can probably get by without it being on these forums, don’t you think?

-“Some people post scandalous things and get away with it, but when others do they are reprimanded. That’s pretty unfair, moderators!”
Two things seem worth mentioning here. First, this is an active forum and there are only so many moderators. Having been a moderator on other bustling forums, I can only guess how much actually goes on behind the scenes for the mods here on DJTT. I’d think twice before claiming that they’re lazy or biased – if anything, I think they’ve done an incredible job of keeping this forum professional, appropriate, and fun. Everyone makes mistakes, some things slip by, etc., but focus on the fact that they’re doing a very good job in comparison to normal. Hell, a bunch of them responded very appropriately, quickly, and kindly here in this thread.
Second, you can always report problems to the moderators and I’m sure they’ll take them into consideration. It’s not “tattling” on anyone. If you find a post offensive, report it, and it seems likely that it’ll be taken care of. If you find a pattern of inconsistency in dealing with OT posts, then think hard about what you’re ACTUALLY trying to argue for, and write a coherent message to the moderators to try to discuss what’s on your mind.

-“If OT posts are such a big deal, let’s just create an OT forum section! Problems solved!”
If you’re arguing for this I would hope that you’re only arguing for it for the sake of separation of topics, not for the introduction of new topics. What I mean by that is that is seems silly to suggest that a new forum section be created so that you can now post things that you otherwise WOULDN’T have been “allowed” to post with a [OT] label in the normal section. Rather, the only ground for suggesting this seems to me to be that you want to be able to have MORE [OT] posts and simply want the room to do so.
That being said, there are several reasons why this may be a bad idea, many of them already mentioned. Two seem really important though. First, a great part of this forum is that people help newcomers and embrace those that are learning. When you separate the forum sections too much, a lot more of the “please give me advice!” posts will be left unanswered because forum members will spend more time in the [OT} section. If you keep the occasional [OT] posts to the normal section, then people are usually looking at the same thread-title-areas and are more likely to open, read, and respond to posts that help the forum thrive.
Second, if you create an [OT] section, it seems extremely likely that the frequency of [OT] posts will spike up dramatically. Right now, people hesitate a little before posting a random [OT} thread in the normal section of the forums, and that hesitation seems good. It prevents having a thousand threads about nothing clogging everything on the forums. It keeps the [OT] threads that DO appear funny, appropriate, and relaxing. Given that the moderators are already being generous in spending their time moderating the threads we already have, can you imagine if there were tons of new [OT] threads? People would be far more willing to “dare near the line of appropriateness” in such a section and it would be hell for the moderators to monitor I bet. That seems pretty unfair.

I love this forum - it's a great escape from life and it lets me learn more about one of my passions. It's also fantastic that it's full of so many interesting, fun, pleasant people. There's no reason that everyone needs to be boring, censored, or dull - but let's be frank, there's always a line that needs to be drawn. The internet is a huge place. I vote we keep these forums as a thriving community that teaches, learns, shares, jokes, and grows together. <3

    Default Agreed, mostly.

FourofaKind - I vote we keep these forums as a thriving community that teaches, learns, shares, jokes, and grows together.
I agree, and like your thought out explanations best. I'm happy with the forums, just want them to be fair.

theory28 - im sorry guys, but based on the way he's pushing this, im calling 'bored troll'
Sorry, not a bored troll. I was just trying to present my points for why I felt the way I did.

Karlos - This thread is the saddest thing ive read on DJTT. Utterly pathetic.
Sorry man. I was just lookin for explanation and reasoning. I've wrote it b4, but the main reason I was justifying that post you locked out was cause I felt there were others similar that had not been. No disrespect to you at all and really do appreciate the knowledge you share.

DJ5DollaHolla - i nominate OP as community filter.
also, would OP be plz'd if we posted half nekkid menz for him?
I don't know what a community filter even does. And if the ladies (how many are there anyways) want half naked men on here, I see that as fair.

Never wanted to piss off any moderators or members with my post. Just was searching for explanation, input, and opinions as all threads are. I'm sure the moderators put in much time to answer questions and patrol here, but also feel its only fair to question authority every so often.
