Me & Kaon went to this gig our mate was playing at the other night and went for a spliff with the MC.

He said a lot of interesting things as he has worked with most of the worlds biggest D & B DJ's over the last 15 years, but one thing he said was super interesting, that Andy C uses decks which auto beat match.

I know some decks have BPM counters on them, but I have never heard of any decks which actually sync themselves.

Does Andy C use DVS now?

Stupidest thing even, that this seems to be some kind of "retro- cycle" that passes along every decade.

With the coming of styles like dubstep amongst others, purists are really keen on claiming that these styles are no derative or subgenre of our beloved DnB.
Better yet, they utter the words "DnB is dead!"

If your own creative impulses can't cope with a style any longer, why claim it is dead in the first place? Couldn't it just evolve into other (sub)styles?
    No, kill your idols instead!
There seems to be no better way to start something new, than completely destroy any relations with the past.

How can a genre with high BPM rates be dead, while comparing it to the ever so low BPM rates of the ever so vivid dubstep?
Ofcourse, BPM rates are not a factor in this case, but people listening and enjoying DnB are.
There are still heaps and heaps of bass-heads still jumping their shoes to the sounds of d&b pioneers as Krush, Bukem, Dom & Roland and all others still producing.

Agreed that the old spirit needs to be revived. Still, it's no reason to don the old lass after that much joy she has given us.

Drum and Bass is dead? It seems ever so vibrant as it was in 1996!

drum and bass is dead because compared to late ninties early 00's it was a much more popular genre. there isn't much development or progression anymore.
dubstep is often compared to or described as a sub genre because the roots of both styles are in dubois muisc.

Auto beatmatching decks ? wtf Saw AndyC earlier this year and he was just using regular Vinyl.

I imagine someone like AndyC could manually beatmatch alot faster and more reliably than beat detecting\ beat matching Vinyl decks could(if such a thing even existed).

Well, with the follwoing I think the people are ever so vibrant, if you look at current releases, not the pendulum styled ones, but comix/logistix etc, you see some sparks from the old days relid.

Well, keylocking I can imagine. Auto beatmatching I can only think of DVS too.

[{drum and bass is dead because compared to late ninties early 00's it was a much more popular genre.}]
--i dont think popularity has any relevance to the death of any given genre, in fact above all things i think popularity is the biggest killer of genres known to man.

    [{there isn't much development or progression anymore.}]
--What have you been listening to? Come to New Zealand oi :P
I personaly think dnb has gotten better with age (like a fine fine wine).

[{dubstep is often compared to or described as a sub genre because the roots of both styles are in dubois muisc}]
--every genre is a sub-genre of something else, dubstep just needs more subs than all the others

    sublime!
