Brilliant article – samples are really adding extra spice to my sets.
And a +1 on the article on sample library management. I have quite a few samples and I´m struggling to navigate them.

Great article, would love to see a follow up on sample library management though. I’ve got a fair bank of samples but am struggling to come up with a system that allows me to effectively use them live

  • Matthiasduyck

Possibly the best article on djtt ever…
I’m doing this new thing with a cousin of mine where he plays the guitar(electric) and plugs into my traktor setup… the only problem i foundwas that apart from switching songs and some effects tinkering there wasn’t coming much action from my part… i think samples might change this… ;)
If you wanna hear what it sounds like, and it does sound rather nice sometimes then look for my latest video om my youtube channel named MADmusicdeejay

This is one of the most useful articles of our time. Samples (and live playback) have been one of the secrets of the most creative DJs. With samples, DJs have a much larger palate of “audio paint” with which to use on their audio canvases (and more control than the “slideshow of songs” which most DJs have been limited to). So now that we have more “audio paints” (I suppose the metaphor extends to the DJ sample decks and D.A.W.s as paintbrushes), the next step is an article regarding the usage of “audio paints” to make Masterpieces instead of using too many samples all at once, making “audio mud” or the over-simplification of using samples as paint-by-numbers.

I very much appreciate this article for myself and my fellow Controllerists.

Timely article. Way to go guys.

Having acquired quite a few free sample packs, all I can say is less is more. Each pack contains 100s of samples, this is a lot more daunting that picking up a dozen nu tunes on Bport.

Take your time with each pack you dl or you’ll just end up with 700 samples you don’t use cause you don’t know them.

I think i’ll go audition/delete my sample packs now

  • Redfred

How do you manage and find samples when you have several sample packs installed?

    • Whitericepower

I would love to know this myself. I can’t seem to find a work flow that’s efficient with my S4 set-up. I would love to see an article on this.

You have to do the prep work. Find 10 samples that you like and you think will work together and save them in their own playlist. Trying to find the right one amongst 1000′s of one shots is impossible.
