We’ve seen a number of DJs make substantial use of the Kaossilator in a DJ set, including the impressive James Zabiela (see our interview with him). Korg today announced the release of their iOS version of the device – check out the video after the jump.

In addition to having the expected feature set of the Kaossilator, the app boasts a wireless syncing technology  (WiST – Wireless Start-Sync Technology) that synchronizes the application with other WiST-enabled apps. We think it looks like a pretty fun app that could be well incorporated into a DJ workflow – they’re launching the product on Apple’s App Store today for $9.99. Imagine this combined with iMaschine?

Dubstep break at the end cracked me up. This looks like fun though, we’ll see if its worth $9.99 of fun…

Interface reminds me of Tangible groove pad:

Albeit more of an intuitive interface than the TGP

I posted this in the gear review section of the forum last Thursday.

SO I pay over £100 for the hardware only a year ago and it’s now being released as an app?
Not only that but with more functionality by the look of it.

I’m starting to think I should sell all my gear and just buy an ipad. Would definitely save me more than a few pennies.

On the contrary the iPad has no input and the app also doesn’t support the Alesis iO Dock.

how does this compare with the iMaschine, im deciding on which to go with, Ean or any other DJTT staff, do you guys have a suggestion/comparison?

  • Darichard1

After you create a beat you cant do anything with it, with the imaschine you can upload it to sound cloud and dl it to your computer.

iMaschine is really great fun.  Not sure about the other one so a bit biased but for a few pounds (or dollars or Euros or whatever) I’ve been able to get solid track ideas out of it in five minutes flat.

Two different apps with two different purposes. iMaschine is great for nailing down melodies when they pop into your head or sitting around and just messing around. If you already have a Maschine you can import straight to that software. This app seems much better for playing with live and gives you the ability to be more expressive with the XY pad.
