Serato Scratch is a very popular tool for DJs around the world but one area it lacks strength is in MIDI mapping capacity. For that reason, we set out to create a mapping for the Midi-Fighter that broke new technical ground. The Midi-Fighter mapping for Serato, does exactly that by using scripts to control modifiers (which don’t exist in Serato Scratch Live). This adds shift functionality to several elements including overwriting cue-points with the shift button. Check out our full walkthrough in the video above or continue reading for more details and links to the mappings.

Download the Midi Fighter Classic Serato Mapping

Download the Midi Fighter Pro Super Knob Serato Mapping

The Midi Fighter Serato mapping is broken into four different pages (by using the Midi Fighter’s built in “4 Banks Mode”), with each page having different functionality as follows:

  • Deck A mode
  • Deck B mode
  • Juggle mode
  • Sampler (SP-6) mode

Both the MF Classic and the MF Pro Super Knob mappings share the same core functionality; however, the Super Knob mapping sets itself apart by allowing intuitive control of Serato’s built in DJ FX . With the Super Knob you can quickly and easily select, control, and activate three single effects and an “Ultra” effect all with the twist of a knob and the press of a button.  For a more detailed explanation of the Super Knob’s DJ FX control, see the visual layout below.

And now to the core functionality of our Midi-Fighter Serato mapping.

Deck A & B modes allow control of the associated decks cue points (triggering and overwriting), looping, loop rolls, and transport controls as can be seen below.

However, if one wanted to simultaneously trigger cue points on Decks A and B it would prove difficult switching back and forth quickly between the Deck A and B modes. As a result, Juggle Mode allows easy control of cue points for both decks in one page as can be seen below.

Lastly, the (fourth page) Sampler Mode allows for easy control of Serato’s SP-6, which can hold four banks of six samples (or 24 samples in total). With the Sampler mode you can add a little flare to your DJ sets by quickly triggering and looping samples as can be seen below.

After having learned a few tricks to MIDI mapping in Serato, we plan on further iterating and developing Serato mappings for our Midi-Fighter Classic and Pro line of controllers. With that said, please give us some feedback in the associated forum threads (linked above) as we will take all your thoughts and recommendations into consideration for future Serato mappings to make them the best and most fun as we possibly can!

This is Great! thanks so much!

Is there a Traktor Pro mapping for the super knob midifighter in the process?

  • n:deuce

very nice. i particularly like the juggle mode.

i have recently lost use of my right hand. i have a denon hc1000s and would love a way to map the fast forward on the first page to control the pitch. if i could bump that up and using the buttons that would be awesome.

either way it looks like it is time to start saving up for some new gear.

  • discothan

How easily would this map over to Serato Itch?

  • Zac Kyoti

Scripts? Details please! I’m not a regular Serato user so I’d be very interested to find out how this works. Thanks guys.

  • Chris Lim

I understand your sentiment and I like your idea to try to integrate Ableton bridge into future Serato mappings. It seems like it could be very powerful.

I currently don’t have very much experience with the Bridge but I will make sure to research it and see what can be done mappingwise. Thanks for your recommendation!

  • Chris Lim

I understand your sentiment and agree that integrating the Ableton Bridge would be very powerful in a Serato mapping. However, given that we didn’t really have a solid mapping for the MF on Serato yet I think this is a good first step.

Also, I don’t currently have much experience with the Bridge, but I will be sure to research it and see what can be done mappingwise for future mappings. Thanks again for your recommendations, I appreciate it!

  • Chris Lim

Yes there is. I expect to post one of the forum soon but if you have any specific ideas, feel free to let me know.

  • NUJAK

Nice vid Guys…Glad to see some folks who work there.

  • sigh

Really need to work on your camera presence, man. That was painful to watch and probably about twice as long as it needed to be.

  • And D Day

I couldn’t get through the whole vid. No offense meant but you should have condensed the vid and maybe made it more lively…. There definitely needs to be some work on stage presence.

  • HAC

so much hate! I for one am happy that you guys are doing more stuff for us SSL users. I will be picking up one of the new midi fighters sometime soon and this mapping will help when i do so. thank you.

  • anonymous

you cant map with ITCH bc it is closed to anything that isnt approved by serato

  • Viperfunk

Good stuff guys!   Great to see some work done towards us serato users :)

I have a super knob controlling a few chained FX – it’s sweet….but I would LOVE to be able to switch between different super knob configurations quickly….is this even possible working some magic with a midifighter and your mapping department?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Gowers

Don’t be put off by these arses commenting on the presence in the video! Seriously you were good enough for me and the more you do the better you’ll get. There is so much hate but these guys are probably the most awkward antisocial dicks out there unable to make a cogent video as good as this.

Much love for you exploring simple non-bridge setups to add further value to a top product with costing us anything!!!

The layout is possibly better than the traktor one, it’s just a shame serato is so pants, it’s software mainly for djs with no imagination who think beat matching is all a dj does.

    Keep up the top work!

  • SS714SS

the only thing I’m waiting for now is a midi fighter mixer !!  come on tech tools

  • sigh

It’s called constructive criticism, friend. Stop trolling.

  • http://www.facebook.com/SirchOne Christopher SirchOne Pollinger

Hey sigh, Three steps for you.

step one .. Show us a video that you made.

step two .. Stop being a total CHODE!

step three .. Stop being a Hater.. and Get a Life!

  • Dual Citizen

Nice to see the Midifighter taking over the world of Serato users!

  • http://www.facebook.com/brikha Emil Beatsnatcher Brikha

There are many different ways to give constructive criticism. But all of them have to be what the expression actually means, constructive. Telling someone they are doing something wrong, without any mention of WHAT exactly is wrong and without offering any idea or suggestion on how to make it better… just isn’t constructive.

First of all, it takes practice. Just look at some of Ean’s old videos and see how far he’s come.

On a constructive note, voice is key. Sounding like you know what you’re talking about rather than pronouncing everything as if it were a question. Conviction is king :)

Secondly, and this is the hardest part. I’ve done theater for 10 years and the first time I performed in front of a camera, it was just weird, to keep “eye contact” with a camera, but just like animals (this is starting to sound like animal planet), eye contact conveys confidence. You rather listen to a person speaking who’s looking at you.

But, bottom line, as a DJ and tech geek I’m just happy that someone has the guts to step up in front of thousands of people, these guys are NOT actors, they’re just like the rest of us, passionate about DJing. So be happy someone is doing something that actually makes sense and contributes to the evolution of DJing, I’m sure it will look and sound better the more it’s practiced and until then, I’m grateful if it just makes sense and teaches me something.

  • Tombruton

Its good that your doing mappings for serato opening it up for more ppl. It just seems a bit bland compared to the nomral djtt stuff however it is fair to say serato is not where near as adavanced when it comes to MIDI mapping.

  • 4321djgear

god yes! I’d take a 8 band crossfader with mine. A&H EQ (four knobs). Not gonna happen though. So I’ll just have to make mine using S4 midi, Ableton max4live, TouchOSC, and Ipad2.

  • DjWindzOne

I’m an SSL user, and all i have to say is THANK YOU DJTT!

  • Themaxive

A touch of the fadermagic that goes on on the beatmascher, but on knobs would be great! ;)

  • http://twitter.com/DjKidFriendly Dylan P.

would be better if auto and loop rolls were controlled with the rotary knobs, whats the point of having a key lock shortcut? Id also take the play/pause button for that extra 5th cue point

  • GrumpyOB1

I’m surprised no-one has commented on the ‘Soapy Wank’ effect or is that just my childishness … You were set up man … what’s next? the ‘SupaSopeaTitayWhank’? great stuff Cheers.

Would you be able to change some of the functions yourself?
I don’t use the efx on serato i just use em on my mixer
i’d like to change the knobs and buttons to change track and control the gain on the two decks. so i don’t have to touch my laptop
pretty much like the traktor x1 but i’d rather buy the midi fighter cuz that shit is swag

  • justin case

couldn’t hear those effects …the sound throught midifighter was too low…

  • Shagz

Another SSL user here saying THANKS!

Teach me how to map Serato ITCH!!

  • Djamesburke

    never lol

  • Djamesburke

Is there any way of using one with ITCH? I know ITCH is not midi mappable but could there be a work around like u did here? I use a TWITCH and I use it with ITCH because there is not one decent TRAKTOR mapping available (if anyone has one one please post me a link). So I was considering purchasing a midi fighter for Traktor and TWITCH, but id also consider one for ITCH or maybe I could use the same midi fighter for ITCH and TRAKTOR with the right mappings, GOOD WORK GUYS!!!!!
