Why is it, with the last technique, required that the effect is set post fader?

Traktor 2 has the sickest FX!! I would love to see a video on how to effectively use the bouncer, tape delay, and some of those unknowns like reverse grain, turntable fx, and mullhand drive, and transpose strectch. :)

Nice demo Ean. The Rane Sixty-Eight delay effect definitely does sound great!

Another trick is to use the delay as a sampler. After capturing audio in the delay (with filtered bass, or whatever’s clever), turn off the FlexFX button and crank the wet/dry all the way wet.

The delay will endlessly loop until the effect is turned off, or you twist the knob back to dry. You can even twist the wet/dry knob quickly all the way dry and back to wet to create a copy/gated kind of effect.

As always, watch your levels! :)

I would also be interested in Gater. Does the TP2 have flaws in their Turntable Fx. Sometimes, i turn it on and it still doesnt work.

  • Dj140beats

Maybe its better to show it with more basic music ? Like regular house music .
now it’s not so clear for me.
    Sorry for my bad English

  • JuanSOLO

Ean says pre-fader, but the resulting sound is very post-fader. I understand there are workarounds in Traktor to fake a post fader delay. So I’m not sure if Ean made a verbal mistake, or if he is doing some mapping trick that is really pre-fader delay, but sounds post.

It would be nice to see a video post breaking down the workarounds in Traktor that make these fake post fader delay cuts. Although many of us have figured these out, others could benefit greatly from a video on such.

OR it would be nice if NI just updated Traktor so one could choose pre or post.

    • Kurt

      +1

I would love to know how to do something like that… Sounds like way too much fun to play with…

Out of curiosity would something like the VST plugins like Glitch or Artillery be able to do this??? I just recently heard of these and haven’t really done my homework on them yet but they look very interesting…

    • Honeycutt

Verbal mistake. Ean corrects himself with a comment in the video — it’s post-fader.

Did anyone notice that the sound went louder when he used the delay/Beatmasher?
Thats a problem which the DJM800 has, too (both on effects and filters).
I guess that Ean showed a good counteract by using the crossfader with the echo effect.

  • Max D

great vid! Me likey.. a lot of old tricks and a lot of new ones.
also +1 on the gater vid

  • Samms

there is one more thing!!! dubfire sometimes uses som tipe of reverb the he turns on and off! but it somehow sounds better then just turning on or off the reverb… any body got any info on that??? and if DJTT would make a video on that, that would be really great!!

    • JuanSOLO

I’m not exactly sure what your talking about, but there is an Ableton Live DJ effect floating around that creates a cool reverb tail. For example you increase the reverb wetness, and once your almost to the very end, the reverb cuts off and trails out a synched sort of delay of the reverb.

If thats what you mean, this could be done somewhat in Traktor too. You just have to get creative with layered mappings. MAybe something like a Gater on the 1st effect that cuts the signal when the mapped knob is almost all the way up. On your second effect a reverb, and third effect a delay that will trail off catching the most saturated reverbed mix. When the mapped knob is all the way up, make the gater quit cutting the incoming signal.

Something kind of like that maybe. You’d still have to figure out how to keep the delay tailing off without effecting the dry signal coming in. hmmmmm

man that is seriously to messed up to my head xD ! i mean i get it… but i literaly have no ideia how to do those crazy mappings… i havent even really seen something like that to be honest.. the most i’ve seen is just one knob controlling multiple parameters… but making an effect turn on or off when a knob reaches a point is really wat too much (right now) ! but is definetly something i will dig in to…

awesome video! the song is Hot Fuzz by Obsidian :P

  • Glitchin21

omg whats that track must have!

  • Samms

in my opinion instead of making a video on some effect, you guys should show some more crazy combos… one i use a lot in traktor now is just the peak fitler and the ice verb… when i turn them off instead of turning down the knobs it makes a great fade out… and even better with a lofi in the begining… just giving an exemple… or just explain the mulland drive (im not shure if thats the exact name…) im shure that could be used a lot if known how to…

I think showing applicable ways of using the midi fighter and DJing in general really sells the said product and makes everyone want to get back on their gear after watching these videos.

Native Instruments does this very well with their website.

Ean love the concept of using the Delay echo. Question though I know lately you have switched to useing the midifighters as decks with a mixer. Are you going to offer a 2x midifighter bundle in the future? Also if say we get a MF tattoo can we get a discount on a MF?

    • cabdoctor

Yeah I current have my DJM500 on eBay to buy two midifighters. I was going to email you to see if I could get a deal on two.

    • http://twitter.com/proben proben

Even better, how about a tutorial on how to get Traktor to accept two MIDI Fighters without having to fiddle with the preferences and controller in and outputs every time you start Traktor? Or is this even possible?

      • Jasonmd2020

Would changing the midi channel of one of the MF’s work? I only got one so if someone wants to send me another to test the theory… :)

The gater is one of my favorite effects, let’s see a video on that.
