So is there or is there not a s4 mapping that maps the effects to the jogs like in the s2 video?

Ean, That was WICKED SICK! I do realize that you really cant do a full blown set like that in the club but incorporating little bits and pieces here and there could really set you (I mean me) apart. I was starting to get into the Effects of the VCI-100SE i owned but i was battling problems with Traktor Pro. I am now on the VCI-300MKII but I miss the effects dearly. Especially the Echo. That was an amazing effect and at times a life saver. Looking for something to work with the VCI-300 and Itch. I tried the matching effect controller and I didn’t like that at all. I returned it. I am looking at the Korg Kaoss KP3.

Why did’nt the development team add a CUE output and Booth output option?

For those of you asking for a DJTT S4 mapping, don’t hold your breath. Ean golden wouldn’t risk killing sales for his fisher price dj controllers, native instruments would need to pay ean golden for him to release one.

It really isn’t that difficult to map the S4 yourself, coming from a vci-100se myself after some simple mapping my s4 makes the VCI-100 feel about as robust as the controller that comes with DJhero.

Ean – Would I be right in thinking that to create a mapping akin to the VCI-100 for the S4, it wouldn’t take that long considering that it’s overall integration is so tight anyway?

Do you have any idea if / when you would get an official DJTT mapping for this up and online?

Maybe I’m being stupid here; I just got my S4 and I cant seem to workout how to send a loop i have recorded from the loop recorder to a sample deck. I think this is possible. Anyone know how?

Its quite possible- there certainly need to be some improvements if people are going to expect the same plug and play fun that you get with the SE mappings.

Yup- there are lots of effects there,

check out the effects chains on 3 and 4- that is what the loop goes through during the solo.

Would love a map for the VCI that simulates the fader fx set up on the S4 and ditches the slicer/echo freeze. Guess it’s time to really understand the mappings. My mind is spinning with the possibilities of two MF’s, a VCI and a Traktor software update.

Hi Amazing stuff, Quick question to anyone

@ 0:56 of the “Phenomena” track I see Ean pushes the Cue button for deck A (and illuminates red). As far as i can see this is the only thing Ean does to start the track in deck A ‘KidRad (Edit3)’. Have the cue buttons been remapped to play buttons as well? Is he (Ean) recording out the head phones output?

    Hopefully I’m making sense.

    Tim

  • SoulSyde

DJ Jesus strikes again! Nice job Ean.

  • BlastMasterD

    Nice work Ean.

I’ve received my S4. I will say it is much bigger than I expected.

As I am an avid VCI-100SE user, I’m a little confused by the S4 workflow somewhat.

Are you DJTT guys planning on releasing a new TSI for the S4 to replicate / supersede the VCI-100′s capabilities?

    Again, nice work :-)

Great routine Ian. Anyone interested in an american audio vms4. For fucks sake why did i buy that piece of shit. The s4 is just bloody awsome. Tried it at bpm fell in love !!!! Oh well only another £750 odd pounds. Still its only money and you cant put a price on the satisfaction youre gonna get out of this little beauty :-)

  • Eli

What’s the piece that comes after the Kid Rad vocals?

  • http://www.eangolden.com Ean Golden

In terms of doing these kinds of routines live, they are not really intended to be something you would do in a club but instead a live remix/art performance piece. Something that you practice for weeks, is very challenging to pull off and really pushes the boundaries of dj performance. To be honest both routines would be way too nerve racking to pull off in the middle of a set UNLESS it was a cotnrollerism performance set where people expected to see these types of routines.
    ___
In general, little elements of each routine makes it into my set as techniques but I rarely pull a full 3 minute live jam in the club.

  • weasel

thanks for the video, nice demo, nice piece of gear. musically though, sounds like a mediocre guitarist playing a neverending solo…

  • DJ BrainRush

Absolutely stunning videos, I got to take a peek at them when NI sent me their newsletter and I was absolutely blown away. The button timing is really tight, the techniques are impressive and it sounds great to boot! Really puts the microwave DJ’s to shame.

Definitely makes me want an S4, but still gives me ideas to try on the VCI 100. Long live the VCI 100!

anyone know what kind of footswitch is best used for these types of performances or which one is used in this video?

  • Max

The phenomenon routine is kinda epic!

  • Anonymous

YEAH OZZY DUDE BROFIST THE PRODIGY MAN THOSE GUYS FUKIN ROCK LIKE PROPER TECHNO MAN DUDE WATCH THIS GUITAR SOLO

  • Anonymous

You add little elemets of these routines to your sets to give your sound a little more character. People will notice when you screw with a vocal sample. The point is to do all these techniques in moderation and in a way a dance floor will react positively.

  • Yul

That’s why it’s a routine. Pulling out this kind of stuff needs a bit of training and is very demanding especially when under ‘live’ conditions. It’s always nice to have a routine or two that gives more impact to your sets. But you cant’ really do that for 2 hours straight (I know I can’t).

this is the kind of interesting question that ean should be able to answer, or any other controllerist. i haven’t seen any controllerists play live myself. the closest would be phil k years ago who did tonnes of tricks with cdjs.

  • DJ-AJAY

Awesome work Ean, always loving the effort, creativity and new skills you are coming up with and taking the time to share with us. Thank you!
I love the track Aerodynamic, on the plus side of using it a lot, is that everyone is familiar with it, and can better understand how you are changing it and what you are doing with it.
Tony: At the end of the day, you play what you and the crowd will enjoy hearing, if you have the skills to pull off something that sounds creative, different or new, then people will appreciate it, even if they don’t know what you are doing. Most people generally love to hear original/new things being done to songs they are familiar with, it adds a new dimension to it. As long as its done well and not overdone.

  • SA

    Thanks VanGogo!

  • http://www.eangolden.com Ean Golden

Yeah- NI asked me to do 3 videos (one is still to be released) and I seriously had ZERO time to develop 3 brand new routines from scratch. As VanGogo said, between product designing, gigging and running a pretty serious company there was very little time for developing new routines. I did come up with 2 new pieces, Ozzy and Green day and then expanded/fine tuned the classic aerodynamic with a new twist!

  • VanGogo

One pedal is active only while you are pressing it, the one Ean uses. The other turns on with one press and off with the next press. So it would be better to have one over the other depending on how you plan to use it.

I also hear your guys about Ean using the same songs (said the same thing when I first saw the latest video), but considering everything he has been involved with in the past year (dicer, S4, DJTT, gigs, etc), I’m suprised he has time to work out a routine at all. So using a familiar track to make coming up with a routine a little easier is not a big deal in my book. He takes it some where new with the last vid.

  • SA

Regarding the Foot Pedal/Switch being used for the S4…

Is that the Boss FS-5U or FS-5L?
I’m confused which to buy, or would there be a purpose to have both styles for different uses? (one for effects, and one for looping)

    Thank you!

  • Tony

That’s where you come in as an entertainer dude, nothing necessarily new about the technology/ies used… And I don’t get how still there are people out there thinking that this thing( or similar) is going to do everything for you.. Is the other way around. If you’re ok with just putting your hand on a record or cdj or controller to match tracks this will be as good as anything if not better. If you want to take it to the next step the S4 will facilitate it, this thing is great and seriously fun! the way it’s laid out, so streamlined without cluttering your space, rock solid performance on my laptop with Logic, Ableton, and Traktor, the sound is fantastic, and I got a lynx aurora in my studio so I got a good reference for how a good audio card should sound like… Mic in? loop recorder? record to a deck and scratch? Dump that to a loop slot? This thing blows my other Dj software/interfaces out of the water! So everybody just stop talking rubbish because you don’t have/ want one.. Will it make you more money? Well this thing is like a ride in an amusement park, and when you are having fun on stage or the Dj booth people do notice and want to see more, which creates more demand and usually translates to more gig$… Peace!

  • neme

great mixing, but you are always using daft punks “aerodynamic”, how about getting some new songs :D

  • rotcodnatas

    Great routines!
It’ll be nice when we can truly configure this thing like Ean. There’s so many interesting ways the S4 could be used.
Haven’t got an S4 yet but will be by the end of the month. Got some good ideas for the recorder, think beardyman type stuff. I just hope NI gets a patch out quickly to allow timecode use.

With all these features that traktor/S4 has now, all NI needs to do is add VST support and we would have an amazing live performance tool/instrument.

Unreal vids Ean, it’s torture seeing so much stuff about the S4 and being so broke, I wonder if there’s any chance of NI releasing academic pricing like they did for Maschine.

I think it is great that you show what people can do with this controller. As far as the skills concerned, I think that you keep doing the same things. Even with the same samples.

Hey! Great videos! The first 2 were very impressive but I could not very good understand what you were doing, in the 3th it became a little bit more clear! maybe a step by step video would be a nice idea! keep up the good work!!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nRq0zaaNjNM
These dudes are scratching the H*ll outta this thing…
And after watching do things to this thing, I am convinced I MUST HAVE IT. This is a huge game changer, I do stuff like this already, BUT I have to make custom edits of tracks to make it work probably… this gets rid of that tedious workflow prep. I am getting this, hopefully from DJ TT but if they don’t got it, I can’t wait for them to resupply, I’ll get it from someplace else…
