Ableton Art

There is a lot of creative ways to use Ableton Live but we have never seen it used as a painting tool! Santiago Luini (aka Zantho) is a TechTools reader and recently started creating pixel art by using Ableton clip colors to paint. You cant help but love their low bit quality and the pain-staking manner in which Ableton is being repurposed in a fun way. Check out a video of him in action and more of his great “clip-work” after the break

Ever wonder what other people do when they working on a track in Ableton and suddenly get stuck?

  • Carmai

All there is to do is assign some audio samples to this colors and we might be up to something here. Someone send this link to Aphex Twin, he might be able to make it work for sure!

  • Shane

Couldn’t just leave it at cool could you Nvidia?
Sorry it’s just that the negativity in the blog comments versus the upbeat and supportive feel in the forum is starting to get to me.

I saw stuff like this in FLStudio back when it was still called Fruity Loops (version 3.5 IIRC). It was entertaining to see somebody present their art in such a multimedia format before it was hip. The sample songs that came with Fruity Loops often had something like this thrown in for good measure, especially songs by Pilch@rd.

Wow… That’s probably the most useless way of utilizing the software!

I will suggest upgrading to Microsoft Paint.. It’s free and have some GREAT drawing tools like boxes, circles and even a fancy fill utility.

    @FDRK

if I had made with the PAINT would not make sense to post it here then 8-)

If you think that guy’s put too much time into drawing things in Ableton sets… check this out: full animation. There’s a short explanation of how he did it in the video’s description.

thanks Zantho , I tried it. Have to say it took me less than 1 minute to figure this out. Most of the things i have tried to learn in Ableton took me serveral hours befor i had it perfect..
But i like Ableton better as a music tool….

    cool

I make it clear that I am producer and not always use Ableton to draw pictures, make music too, of course

    4 Zantho

a german music mag published a short article about zanthos work @

    http://de-bug.de/musiktechnik/archives/4023.html

    the original text:

for those non german speaking persons the main points: at the beginning is something about what are the results when you are in a Live-Sessions and Zantho uses Live differently, but at the end they make some kind of ironic joke in my opinion: also MS Paint would do the same job.

so what i would like to now, is DTT the first website who published this? Zantho do you know about this article at this german site and is it legal that they use your pictures, is there normally not some kind of copyright on it?
