I have Traktor Scratch Pro 2 and running Audio 6. When I set everything up my tracks are playing backwards and the BPM is going nuts as if its not calibrating itself correctly and no audio at all? It says that my CDJ’s are calibrated and I get a signal from the Audio 6 but not working correctly. Any ideas?

Hello, I’m having a problem setting up my decks with traktor 2.6.0 and audio 6. deck A works fine even though I think the calibration is not completely ok, Deck B however doesn’t work fine, as I drop the needle I can listen to the track, but if I stop the VTC I get no sound as I release the vinyl. Can anyone help me out with my problem?

    Hi everyone,

I have an Audio 10 and every time when I connect my decks, the following calibration failure happens.

Playing tracks is possible, but the system isn’t stable enough. After a while a distortion occurs, ea. 2 seconds an awkward sound. This phenomenon keeps returning.

A friend of mine has an A6 and whit his soft- and hardware it works perfectly. So I can exclude connection problems of my decks and mixer.

Is there anyone who can help me?

I too have a problem with calibration. One deck wont work and when i do get it to work it starts going crazy – playong backwards etc. and thjen goes. I have checked and it looks like i am not getting an input on both channels, but if i play with the multi core connection (right deck, right side) calibration will come and go. It looks like i have a bad lead, yet they are only a few months old and an earlier post suggested they are rock solid. Will replacing the multi core leads fix the problem, should i look at the vestax deck, wighting, cartridge connection??…

    Hi, Maybe someone can help,
I have just installed traktor scratch pro with the the timecoded vinyls set up and can mix/record but the continous tone is overpowering the tracks even with the master turned up along with the upfaders it can be heard. I have cross-checked all the leads, set up with a mate who has the same equipment but cannot get a clear sound. It is as if all the gains are turned up along with the timecode tone.
I have tried to record this sound on traktor but the recording (even with gain turned up) is quite the opposite and extremeley quiet :-(
Anyone know what is going on?

Stuck with time code problem here!

Im using Traktor Scratch Pro with Audio 4 DJ interface on a Mac OS X 10.4.11, done all updates. When I play my traks i get signals from both tables fine, but i can’t get the timecode to work. I get the and tried the RST button without it changing anything. Timecode setup is assigned properly and the Scratch Panels is checked.

WHAT THE HELL IS NOT WORKING?

  • Tim Smith

The problem im encountering since i converted to vinyl(using traktor scratch pro) is when ever i have to tracks matched, the phase bar displays that one of the tracks have lagged by a fraction of a second..when i go to speed up the delayed track by using the platter, the phase bar reading either falls back to its original place or over shoots the centre line on the phase..it just wont stay dead centre..is it something to do with my turntabes or is it the software??

    Hello!

My question is about the timecode noise (beep) coming right from the needle, becouse of the physical connection between the timecode record and the needle. If i play music ”deaf” , listening it only in headphones, the noise is like brrr… Is it possible to fix it somehow, or this is the normal way to use timecode systems?!

I have exactly the same problem whith cd skiping, i have the news reloop rmp 3 , i tried everything , its all ok with conections and software , with other cd player or vinyl works fine but whith the rmp 3 doesnt , this is the awswer of the native instruments:

    We have seen though that
many CD players using an algorithm which modifies the original signal coming
from the CD for whatever reason, which affects the quality of the timecode
signal and thus, causing undesired side effects.

We recommend to get in touch with the manufacturer of the CD player first and
ask specifically if they use algorithms modifying the original CD signal, or
if this can be fixed with an available firmware update for this device. Our
latest investigations regarding this topic can be found in the following
article, which we will update as soon as we receive more information about
    this topic:

    http://www.native-instruments.com/knowledge/questions/667

I logged a support call sometime back abou this issue to Native Instruments but their response is that I should replace my CDJ. I am using Stanton S550 which they said they were not familiar with. This is strange because NI and Stanton were in partnership with Stanton Final Scratch. They suggest I replace with CDJ 400. I dont know about you but I cant afford to replace hardware because of software issues. I guess I will have to live with the problem.

I like to use the scroll functions on the timecoded mediums. Works fine with vinyl but on cd as soon as I move the jog wheel it just scrolls continously and I am not able to stop or reverse. Anyone else have the same problem or any solutions?

  • http://www.deeperfocus.com Nic Aragon

I think its weird that the BPM read on traktor when using timecoded vinyl various about 5 intervals. For example, If i need to use 128BPM I will set the table to that speed and on Traktor it goes from 127-129BPM it never just stays on one BPM! That makes it annoying to keep having to baby/tease when mixing. Anyone else have this problem?

  • Dan

Thanks ko1N, timecode circle looks perfect (a part from when it skips, but its very brief). So you think it could be more of a CDJ problem rather than a software problem?

  • http://www.myspace.com/bentosan BentoSan

Bdubz – you need to upgrade to Traktor 1.1.2 where the bug is fixed

  • Bdubz

Rainer, Could you possibly give me more details on the pitch issue in version 1.1.1 My right deck always does this while using Timecode Vinyl. I cannot make the transition to using Traktor live at my shows because of this problem. I actually have no idea why this problem occurs so maybe its something I am doing wrong?

  • ko1N

Hmm, as far as i know the output volume of the 100/200/400 series have a very little output value compared to the higher end cdj’s. What does the timecode circle look like?

  • Dan

I have Pioneer CDJ 200, i tried burning the Traktor CDs as mp3, but still happening. Really frustrating..

  • http://www.traktorbible.com Rainer G. Haselier

    Dan,

    what CDJ are you using?

    Rainer

  • http://www.traktorbible.com Rainer G. Haselier

    Dan,

what CDJ are you using? I heard from other users that they had these skipping problems with some stanton CDJ. What they did is ripping the timecode CD as mp3, burnt a new cd with those mp3s and the probs were gone. I haven’t tried it myself (have no skpping issues) but maybe it’s worth to try.

    Rainer

  • Dan

Thanks ko1N, but i tried that already, happens at all latency settings

  • ko1N

Maybe your Latency is to small so you get some buffer overflows in the audio! Try to adjust the samplerate a bit higher (or the latency).

  • Dan

    Really helpul article, thanks,
the problem I often have with CD’s is the message “CD skipping” with small jumps in the sound. The CD is not actually skipping (audio CDs work fine, and same thing happens with all the Traktor CDs I tried, including burned mp3 Tracktor CDs). Tried all latency settings, key lock is off, no ther application open, wireless disabled, everything seems perfect.. But often skips, especially when stressing a little bit more the software (such as using 3 decks, using midi controller, multiple FX etc.), but sometimes also while just one deck is playing and I’m not doing anything.
If you find me a solution I will be forever grateful :)

  • Jay cee

I had a crazy situation a while ago where the mixer had an earth problem and was sending a signal through the core cable in traktor it threw me for 20 mins till I popped the cable off and stuck it in the line side just to see what would happen, it sorted it so had to pop off the vinyl and use tc cd, always bring a back up to every gig, luck the cd players worked ok.

Oh oh, you’re right. A typical copy & paste error.
    Sorry for that.

  • ko1N

Oh well – there’s a little error in the text…

“Traktor has detected the control medium (CD), but in this figure the right channel is missing.
Solution: Check the cabling and check the cartridge connections.”

    It’s definatly a cabling problem… at least i don’t have a cardridge on my cdjs ;)

In most cases I only could get one channel running it was simply a problem with the needle (in most cases the connection to the tone arm) – bring your own needles and try to use a bit spit if the connection is still not solid. In most cases this works well.

As far as i can tell Y-Cables are a bit fragile which sometimes results in a loose connection – I can advise the multicore cables from NI – they’re rock solid in any case and can be used with any soundcard/dvs (as I do use them ;))

So good luck to all DVS spinners!

I always wondered if there was a RST button for midi.
    [/quote]
It is a bit off topic but anyway.
I don’t know exactly in Traktor 1.1.2, but Traktor 1.2 supports plug and play for USB devices. The faderfox uses a DIN 5 plug and that protocol doesn’t support PnP. And there is no way to tell Traktor that it shall check for new midi devices.

    Rainer

  • n3lly

    Great Article.

I always wondered if there was a RST button for midi.
Reason I ask is sometimes i forget to turn on my midi controller (Faderfox DX2) and when i turn it on the Audio8 DJ soundcard flickers whenever i press a key on the midi controller but nothing happens on screen.

In other words I have to turn the midi controller on before I start Traktor up. I’m wondering if there’s any way of getting Traktor to recognise the DX2 if I connect it up after I’ve loaded traktor up.

    Thanks..

Not easy to answer your question because there are many factors involved:
    - Clean records and a clean needle are always a good starting point.
    - Are the timecode record very new or worn out? When they are used a lot and when the problems arose over time buying new records couuld help.
    - Are you using Version 1.1.2? There has been the phenomenon of the wild going pitch in earlier versions. These are solved in 1.1.2.
    - Is the wild pitch occuring in a deck where you use timecode for or in another deck? In latter case de-connect the deck from timecode input. This cannot be done in the Preferences/Timecode Setup dialog, but only with the MIDI command Timecode | Assign Deck to Scratch Control.
    - Are you using Audio 8? The input mode is set correct on the audio interface or with the Settings Tool of the Audio 8 DJ?

    Hope that helps a bit

    Rainer

  • http://www.graphicdesignstolemysoul.com Priscilla

Good article. I have a question. If stuff is acting weird with the timecoded vinyl would you recommend cleaning the record with some Gruv Glide and maybe cleaning the stylus?

Sometimes Traktor Scratch Pro won’t read my timecode at all, it just says waiting, somethings the pitch goes wild, and so forth.
