Kid Mods VCI
Ok kids- DONT try this at home. @ 1:40 everyone here in the DJ TT office was CRINGING as this adorable young controllerist started cutting all the wires at once. That’s a major no-no and will cost many hours of tedious backtracking as I am sure his dad soon discovered. Modifying your own arcade button controller is really not that difficult. In fact, as this video clearly demonstrates- even a kid can do it! But…. there are a lot of tricks and techniques we have learned at DJTT HQ that you really need to know before attempting this job yourself. In order to help you perform a perfect mod your first time, Dj TT has created an arcade button DIY kit that contains:
- Comprehensive 30 minute video walking you through each step in detail
- Arcade Button overlay to cover the holes and wrap the VCI
- Pre-soldered lead extensions with the correct diods
- DXF cut guide for your machine shop
On Monday we are going to be posting a 10 minute version of the tutorial video for everyone to use. The full kits will go up for sale on Monday, along with arcade buttons in all different colors so everything you need for the mod can be easily obtained in one place.

Got my buttons and the cut guide at home.
Too scared to have it cut.
I can get it done free….but i can’t be there to watch.
(thats not gonna happen).
I will rather pay and be there, JUST in case.
I think I will order the Diodes with lead extensions.
:)
I have a Audio Technician mate who is a WHIZZ with Electronics. He will fit them for me.
Hopefully will happen this week, I am working nightshift…so off in the day.
Awesome stuff Ean!

How much are these kits going to be ?
July 17th, 2009 at 3:19 pm Quote
I would buy pre cut overlay :D

I really really hope these kits aren’t super overpriced… The Buttons are $2 each x8. The Leads and Diodes are under a couple dollars. With DJTT charging $30 for an overlay this kit is gonna be at least like $80 and overpriced.
The video/guide will get circulated around the web. Just sayin.

Just out of curiosity, I am wondering what everyone thinks is a fair price for the kit. Keep in mind we are posting a 10 minute video to Youtube (the max allowed)for everyone to use but the kit includes a HD version thats 30 minutes and goes into a lot more detail.

OMG YES!,
I have been waiting so long to do this to my VCI-100, but I never learned how to soder and I couldn’t afford the Ean Golden SE. The only thing now is I have to find a machine shop to do my cuts.
As for the price:
$40
That would have to be my limit (I think). Cuz it includes so much….

Well Nvidia,
First of all no matter what the price ends up being Paypal is the real thief.
That aside..
The going rate of an overlay is $30 which I think fair’ish.
As for wires and diodes $8 is more than enough even if you buy a full spool of wire. The real question is what does Ean feel his unique knowledge and 8 solders are worth.
I think 60 would be fair, I just hope the buttons are competitive with HAPP etc and not marked up.

Ean,
maybe you should say at first that it’s 15$ without the overlays. (after the title)
I think it could be a bit confusing otherwise, especially because you mention the overlay in “the kit contains” part.
and then at the end you see that it’s actually 45$ with the overlay and 15* without.
just a suggestion :-)
Anyways, I’m definitely going to buy this kit!!!!

Hey guys I have no soldering experience and basically zero wiring experience. On a scale of 1 – 10 how difficult is this mod for an amateur like me.
July 25th, 2009 at 6:42 pm Quote
I think the USD 15 is crazy cheap. Its really the full service that makes this package so good and not the prices of the components. Awesome that you are enabling the masses to get their hands modding at such a low price. This will surely build confidence in a lot of people to take things further!
