A week long residency with Ean Golden at the 5 star Karma resorts on the island of Bali. Your flight and hotel will be paid for courtesy of Karma Resorts, all you need to do is show up, relax and rock the islands best outdoor parties and day time chill out events.

step 2: watch this video and upload your mix
The Rules:
- This is a digital dj competition so we want to see you spinning with a computer.
- Controllers are encouraged but not required
- To enter, create a video of you mixing live and post it as a response to the video
- That video should be a minimum of 5 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes
- do not email us with questions, post them here so others can see the answers
- Video contest closes on November 31rst
How to Win:
We want to see your digital dj skills in action. The best way to do that is by employing some of the tricks we use in our own you tube videos. You DON’T NEED a fancy video to enter, but the more you show us the more likely we are to like your skills.
- Get a friend to shoot the video or put a camera on a tri-pod (don’t worry about quality!)
- download a program that does video screen capture so we can see your software in action.
- record the audio output of your software
This contest will be judged by a representative from Dj TechTools, Remix Magazine and the owner of Karma. Here is the criteria:
- song sequencing
- popularity of your video on YouTube (so promote yourself!)
- timing
- originality
- creative use of hardware (if used)
- difficulty of mixes and or techniques
The Gig
Karma resorts own a pair of beautiful properties on the Indonesian island of Bali. These 5 star resorts offer the very highest in quality but in a relaxed no-attitude environment. International djs often make Karma a stopping over point on the way to other gigs, where they play sets ranging from relaxed daytime grooves to full moon parties that last until morning. You will be staying in a luxury villa at the Karma Kandra resort which is perched on hill with a beach and the dj booth down bellow on the ocean front.
FAQ
Do I need to be doing crazy things like controllerism to win? No- just be yourself.
Can I use any software? Yes, any dj software including Ableton is acceptable.
What Music Style? Be yourself!
When will the winners be announced? December 15th
When will I be going to Bali? Early 2009 depending on the winners schedule.
Is my flight included? Yes, your flight and lodging are paid for but you are responsible for food and drink.

If you want to submit a mix thats longer than 10 minutes that should be ok. Just make the 2nd half a video response to the first. please only post one mix per entry though.

So, it sounds like we’re talking about a 10-20 min mix? I’m confused now… I was thinking hour originally. Maybe we need some parameters on this so you get what you’re wanting. You know someone’s going to do a 4 hour mix if you don’t specify. ;)

My question: I always play with my pc (Traktor and VDJ), I use a Vestax VCI to control the software, but as you do, I do the mixing externally on a real mixer. Is this setup recommended for the comp or should I use the software mixer?

you need to submit a video of you mixing. The video minimum is 5 minutes and you tube limits you to 10 minutes max. You can add one more video for a total of a 20 minute mix.

This is a fated discovery for me. I have been talking to my friends and we are all discussing Bali. My fiancee and I have been looking at Bali for our honeymoon, and a friend of ours is flying there to get married! All next spring. This really caught my attention. Not only the grant price but and all the self motivation and public exposure.
Gonna take my time and record this video & mix soon. The only downside I see is that 20 min (2×10) max time is really not enough in my opinion especially for electronic music. Not everyone is Jeff Mills who mostly uses like 30sec to 1.30min of a track into his set. 30 mins would be more realistic in order a dj better to present him/her-self.
Enough talking, gotta get down to business.

Just want to let you know that my video is up. In case the information is useful:
-I used Camtasia Studio for the software screen capture.
-Recorded my self with a webcam on a diferent laptop while playing (Don`t want to overload the cpu of the pc running traktor)
-Recorded the audio with traktor
-Used Corel Video studio to combine all together.
Issues you may encounter:
-For my surprise the recording of me playing that I did with the webcam turned out to be shorter that the audio recording….. THis is caused becasue of the compression method in the video which causes it to run a bit faster than usual.
SO after I did a time stretch on Corel studio to get to the desired speed. If you encounter this issue you need to synch it using a similar method as you would do with 2 records. Find a place on the begining of the video that you know is in synnc with the music. stablish this point as the start point. Then look at the end of the video and identify weather the video or music is ending first. Finally time strech the video till the end is in sync with audio. So basically you need to sync the beggining and finally the end.

A little help please, I am wanting to enter this competition but i am still waiting on Traktor scratch pro arriving and there is another problem i just got my macbook 13 inch need to now how to capture all this stuff. Will i use the built in cam? What programs do i use? ie screen capture software and the i movie window is to big and covers most of Traktor is there a program i can use and still use the built in web cam?
Ean if you read this what would you use and how would you do it?
