As you may have noticed, djtechtools.com has been seriously dysfunctional for the past 24 hours. Our host providor, Blue-Host aka “the last company you every want to depend on for reliable service or hosting” randomly deleted a bunch of files inducing every picture we have upload in the past year. During the process of trying to recover those files, they made more mistakes and our wordpress installation became corrupt. After a full day of work its all back now but any comments or questions asked over the past 3 days have been lost along with the article I wrote for today. That article, a review of the Aurora controller, will get posted on wed instead.
Any recommendations for a new server?

get a media temple (mt) account for sure. They are the business.
Best host I have ever used. Reliable as. Awesome customer service. And you can have a cool little icon on your page that says ‘hosted by media temple (mt)’ which would make DJTT even more awesome cool.
http://www.mediatemple.com ftw
I can also vouch for http://www.siteground.com
Good hosting with a lot of features in the C-Panel (Fantastico etc)
I like http://www.asmallorange.com - been using them for years. Tim over there does a great job of keeping things running smooth.
Thanks in advance for putting up a review of the Aurora 224 Ean!
That sucks when you’ve got incompetent admins looking after your gear. If you don’t already you might want to invest in some online backup mechanisms such as jungle disk or mozy.com. When setup correctly your downtime would be greatly reduced to maybe an hour or 2 while things are recovered.
I have used media temple for a few clients, and so long as you don’t want to do anything server side thats tricky they’re pretty good. Mosso.com is another really good one that I use for a lot of my clients.
Boo to Blue-Host !
I dont like that company. This sucks, all those pics gone!! I hate them now
Ean,
You MUST contact Jason @ CharlottezWeb.com, if even at the very least just to get a quote when you compare other people.
I’ve been hosting numerous sites through him for many years now.
He’s reliable, dependable, quick to return technical messages, a pleasure to deal with, and always willing to go the extra mile. I can’t begin to say enough good things about him.
This is coming from someone who had to move hosts…and he his assistance in that move was unrivaled!
my friend uses fatcow hosting. It has worked well for her so far.
just want to say sorry you’ve been having problems. my host who doesn’t even deserve a mention here has been flaky once in a while, and i imagine a lot of other hosts have trouble too from time to time.
it’s not an easy business, but hopefully “clustered” hosting will offer some hope in the future.
thanks for the suggestions guys!
Dreamhost does 1-click wordpress installs. I’ve been using them with minimal downtime since 2004
Godaddy.com - I’ve used them for 6 years now without any problems. They’ve also got lots of options for your database server.
http://www.one.com fast n not so expensive
http://www.dreamhost.com i’ve been using them since around 2000. They are rock solid, cheap and have excellent service.
Dreamhost and Godaddy have both worked out greatly for my clients.
Sorry for the double-post. The stupid form clicked through before I had even started typing anything.
I use Hostmonster.com. I have not had one second of downtime in the last year. Sure, I don’t get a lot of hits, especially not before the last few weeks when I actually began hosting some smallish content…but their prices are GREAT, and they offer “unlimited” space and bandwidth. Unix-based servers, if you can deal.
They are easily overlooked, because they are completely overshadowed by Bluehost, Hostgator, etc. Hostmonster actually provides hosting for some of those other hosting services, which is probably the only reason they’re still around.
I love them, though. Even their tech support is awesome.
Give them a look, I promise it’s worth the five minutes.
I use MediaTemple for the servers but host my domains on http://www.namecheap.com so if I ever have to move on to a different hosting it’s easy. Slightly more costly than godaddy etc but I find the service great and their dashboard website is superb.
Got loads of friends who are hosted there!
They rock!
regarding the accident:
That’s whats good about intelectual property, even though we lost part of our comments and such, we haven’t actually lost anything, since all that came from us. It’s still here. All we have to do is post again.
Don’t worry, be happy!
Cheers Ean
Ean:
As stated in our conversations prior to the forums… Id strongly recommend Dreamhost.com - I have dealt with many host company over the past 10 years.. and they have an excellent service and almost all my customers have changed to them. 90% of them has never experienced any shutdown at all.
Ean,
