Introducing JogGrips

final-packaging-front

This handy accessory has been in development for over 4 months while we made sure it was absolutely perfect. I am proud to say that its up for sale in the web store and kicks ass! The VCi-100 is a great controller but there is one major problem with the jog whel design. The clear plastic area, which is used for pitch bending, is just too small and its very easy to accidentilly trigger the metal plates destroying a smooth mix. Our solution? Make that area bigger and more tactice.

JogGrips will:

  • enlarge the outer pitch bend area to give the VCI-100 a CDJ-1000 feel.
  • add much needed grip while using the inside the jog wheel.
  • allowing you to find both zones by feel and not sight
  • ensuring you never accidentally touch the metal plate again!

Wont they reduce the area of touch sensitivity?

Not really, because typically you use 2 or more fingers to find the start of a song or scratch a simple phrase. Jog Grips have been designed so that your hand naturally falls half on/ half off the grips when you grab the wheel. So one of your fingers activate the touch sensor while the index finger benefits from from the grip and added tactility.

How do I apply them?

What do other djs think of them?

“Loving the jogrips. Pretty easy to install and they work great. The grip is amazing, it does not allow my finger to slide on the surface at all.”
-Antonio Gonzalez

“These JogGrips are IMHO a superb add-on to the already great VCI-100SE. Thank you very much!”
-Carl Almquist

“The se along with the jog grips and arcade buttons is a completely different instrument. It’s going to be in a museum someday. Unbelievable!!!”
-Jonathan Shneidman

Where do I get a pair?

JogGrips are on sale for $14.99 with free world wide shipping In the Dj TechTools webtore

pretty cool. ' gonna wait for the t-shirts and order all at once.

What about changing the store link on the header to point to that link, now that the SE's have all been sold?

  • http://www.eangolden.com Ean Golden

yeah, I just cant figure out how to do that :) need to ask the web designers

  • rBOB

So you can scratch if you flip the platter settings from in to out?

If so, how resposive is it to scratch using the outside portion?

  • Foreverhex

Ean, if you ever need help with web development just let me know. I have been working with web programming for about 7 years now.

  • Nick G

Anyone put these on a none se vci 100? just wondering if they look ok or not?!

  • http://www.eangolden.com Ean Golden

Thats a good question Nick G, I dont have a full silver VCI here but I put them on a silver jog wheel and it looks good. Can anyone take a photo?

  • Argus

all of this is great, but I really wish you'd do more non-VCI topics.

  • http://www.eangolden.com Ean Golden

I agree with you Argus, its time to take a break from the vci-100.

  • Chris combe

    ordered mine yesterday.. can't wait..

  • Mads

I was wondering… I plan to turn my silver vci in to a vci SE, using the wrap/plates going on for sale in September. If I put the Jog Grips on my silver vci now, would I have to pull them of again, when wanting to opgrade to the vci SE???

  • -dIm-

Can the JogGrips be removed and re-applyed?

  • DJLp

    Ean,

I read why the grips supposedly aren't good for scratch DJ's and wanted a little more info (because they definitely look good).

This is what got my attention (this is the detail about NOT reducing touch sensitivity:

"Not really, because typically you use 2 or more fingers to find the start of a song or scratch a simple phrase. JogGrips have been designed so that your hand naturally falls half on/ half off the grips when you grab the wheel. So one of your fingers activate the touch sensor while the index finger benefits from from the grip and added tactility. Its the best of both worlds!"

If that's the case, wouldn't that actually be to a scratch DJ's advantage? You tested these things so your knowledge goes way beyond my assumptions so please elaborate as time permits. As well, are you saying they might work better for some with the CDJ tks? Also, if I put them on and change my mind, how much work will it take to pull them off and have a clean jog wheel?

Just want some clarity. For $20 I can almost gamble on my own without it being a major loss. However, since the questions are coming from all sides, I thought I'd pose these.

  • dec

gonna wait for the plates and buy everything together too. would be nice if you guys could give some sorta bundle discount :P

Are the plates definitely coming out next month Ean?

  • http://www.eangolden.com Ean Golden

Yes, you can put jog grips on now and still remove your jog wheels when its time to apply the overlay upgrade.

Yes, they are removable in general. You can take them off and re-apply them within a week and there will be little residue or problems. After a week you can still remove them but they wont re-apply very well and there may be a residue from the adhesive that you can take off with Goo-be-gone.

Depends on where you like to scratch? if you like to use the very outside edge of the wheel then these are not for you. if you scratch a little bit inside the wheel then there is no problem.

Just a note, we have a 100% money back guarantee- if you dont like them just send them back and you will get a refund. no questions asked.

Site Admin > Design > Theme Editor > Header (Header.php) is one option. ;)

  • Mads

Ean, you say "Yes, you can put jog grips on now and still remove your jog wheels when its time to apply the overlay upgrade."

Does that meen that the overlay upgrade doesn't have any overlay for the jog wheels? Would be a shame to leave them in the original silver colour, imo…

  • http://www.myspace.com/urbanfabricmusic Urban Fabric

These look good, but I am a bit hesitant to apply them to my SE.

  • cad

    thats nice for you.

  • OZilla

Urban Fab u ass, ur so lucky to own an SE and u flaunt it at every opportunity u can!!! Urban Fab even posted 2 vids on YouTube of him first receiving the SE then second unboxing it! what a teaser!

sorry, i just had to~ lol

  • http://www.myspace.com/urbanfabricmusic Urban Fabric

Hey guys I am just concerned about applying the grips and then not being able to remove them if I don't find them of any use.

As far as flaunting, I really didn't think that I was doing such. The videos were posted so that others who weren't fortunate enough or lucky enough to own one would see what the unit looked like straight out of the box.

I never once thought I was rubbing it in peoples faces that I owned an SE.

Besides, Ean is offering a kit that can change the vci-100 to the SE version soon. So everyone will have the chance to work with one.

  • http://www.eangolden.com Ean Golden

I understand Urban Fabrics excitement, and I think Ozilla didnt mean any harm, he was just poking fun.

dont worry they are very easy to remove and can even be re-applied many times without any problem. Once they have been sitting on a surface for 30+ days then there may be a slight residue but nothing a little goo be gone cant take care of.

  • http://www.cumcrew.nl Glen McArdle

    Hello Ean,

I've also seen you do tons of stuff on the VCI-100, but now the VCI-300 is coming out soon and I hardly can wait (I've pre-orderd it) and I just can't seem to find enough clips about the VCI-300 that meet my needs.

Maybe you can do a couple more on the VCI-300? Maybe a few clips that covers the full tour of a VCI-300 and lets us have a good glance at it??

  • dec

Hey Ean, really hope you guys extend your free int'l shipping promo till after the wraps are available! It would mean alot to the poorer amongst us! :)

  • http://www.eangolden.com Ean Golden

Its going to be hard to do free shipping on the wraps but I can see what we will do. I think we will be offering free shipping on jog grips for a while though as they are significantly less expensive to ship.

What song is being used in the "How do I apply it?" youtube video?

If you are a scratch DJ why the hell would you mix with a VCI?

  • http://www.eangolden.com Ean Golden
If you are a scratch DJ why the hell would you mix with a VCI?
you most likely would not. Thats why jog grips are great. They assume that you wont want to really scratch with the jog wheel and convert it into a more use full surface with greater surface area for pitch bends.

  • DJLp

Valid question. In short, many Traktor users (especially the non techno/house DJ's) were people such as myself that stopped turntable DJing prior to controllers but got back in when Traktor was introduced. So it's not like we sold our turntables to go controller. We were already off of them (turntables) for a year, or two, or three and trying to sneak back in as much of the control we once had with tables (but obviously it's not TOP priority for us or we woulda went for Serato).

However, you can get moderately busy on a VCI-100 and you can straight up battle with a VCI-300 (search some youtubes). So it's not as obnoxious of a thought as it may seem on the surface.

By comparison, most Serato users are guys that went straight from traditional turntable mixing to time-code vinyl with nothing in between with the possible exception of CDJ's. Hope that brings a little more logic to the discussion.

I am not aware of one – it would be possible but does not seem like the best controller for that
