I know this forum is a little dated, but I was wondering if somebody could give me a little advice as I try to set up my Guitar Hero/X-box controller up as a midi controller. I am working off of a mac and I installed GamePad companion but it won't recognize any of the USB devices I hook up to my computer. I tried solving this by downloading USB Overdrive but I have the same problem where it won't recognize any of my connected devices.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do to fix this? No matter what I try I can't seem to get my mac to recognize any USB devices.
"HID (human interface device) messages are fast and accurate but there is no dj program that will listen to them so your going to have to convert it into MIDI or Key strokes."
I can see that this topic started in 2008, so at the time the quote above may have been true but now Virtual DJ 7 works with HID devices, MIDI devices, Firewire devices, and serial devices. They can all be setup using the "mappers" tab of the config window, the box to the right of the drop down select box is where you tell it what types of devices you want to interface.
Virtual DJ has also got some powerful script available but you do need to learn how to wright it because as of right now there is not allot of advanced pre written mappings available yet. I use both Traktor and Virtual DJ and while Traktor dose have better preconfigured devices out there (defiantly thanks to DJ TechTools and there amazing innovative minds) I like the video mixing I can do with Virtual DJ and VDJ is way ahead of the competition in the video department for simple interface mixing. With any luck the guys at DJ TechTools will blow my mind again and come up with some cool stuff to do with video but in the mean time I will be a supporter and will buy my first MIDI Fighter.
