it doesn't do a lot for me to be honest - why not just assign the parameters to different controllers so you can actually vary your FX thru the set and not be confined to just one gimmick?

Becuase you can assign 4 knobs to the regular parameters to vary the fx and have 1 knob dedicated to a "gimmick" that you regularly use. Far from a gimmick though, have multiple functions tied to a single pot is a time and mental focus saver.

I have yet to find a stand alone program that has amount of control i like to have over my midi :(

The best stand alone audio program with control over midi in my experience is FL Studio, the shame its not entirely suited to Live music :(

Good tutorial on the very basics of smart-knobs, doing this sort of stuff is a great first step for would be controllerists :)

Hey Ean thanks for the all the tips, you have really given me an edge on mixing with Traktor. Keep up the hard work, and I agree with everyone longer is better for the clips.

Ableton live has extencive midi assign :)

Hi Ean,

Nice and straightforward but...
Perhaps you could add some more visual material to your video's about what's really happening. Visual learning is the way to go and the additional insight leads to better performance in the end. "How" gets us started but "Why" leads to true satisfaction.
The additional amount of time you need to invest in you videos will definitely be worth it imo.

In previous versions of Traktor (I think v2) I remember they displayed the effects of the filters visually. I honestly don't understand why they removed this as it really helped me understand how the knobs controlled the effect.

For example the Q or Resonance. I don't think a lot of people really know what it does. Most beginners probably just turn the knob and hope for the best without knowing what sound effect they are going for beforehand.

A simple image could do wonders:
http://www.beausievers.com/synth/synthbasics/i/resonantlowpassfilter.png

This made me understand why the resonance can cause the signal to clip for example and why one should not overdo because it makes your ears hurt.

Providing people with this small amount of theory without diving into maths would really take the video's up to another level.

You did great giving practical examples, as always...
But to be honest we don't need a video to explain the function of every knob as this can be found in the manual actually.

Now that I'm thinking about it, maybe a Traktor/DJTechTools Wiki might be an idea for this kind of information :)

Just my 2 cents.

Happy DJing,
