Hate to break it to everyone, but Beatmania IIDX has been around for more than a decade now. I've followed all the Bemani games since DDR and the "guitar hero craze" is simply an Americanized version of GuitarFreaks which Konami released in 99' (JP). There's dozens of Beatmania mixes for a bunch of consoles and it even made it to North America. I've played it several times, it's not quite "DJing" but it's fun.

I remember watching a news clip about beatmania when I first started djing with my crew in 98. I was like oh yea ... this confirms it. And thought back to the U of M experimental music classes from two years earlier. Big Ideas are only get big if they are developed.

hey.

I think that -- crabscratch 'notation' -- might be a very good way to put it. Ive been using Ableton Live to record midi notes that I am sending to traktor. I then use ableton to send the note sequences to traktor as groups while ableton is synced to traktor.

This is the same thing as is would be developed with DJ hero. But My aspirations for the process actually lie in the use of the NMX functions of traktor to create multitrackable command sequences that can be time stretched and manipulated easily live.

My question is. How much beating will these controllers be able to take and when we will be able to interface them to standard midi-compatible app. That is IF they are worth it.
