Yes to forum. Its a resourceful place! :)

I think its a fantastic idea. I recently stumbled across your site, but found the topics entailed to be of great interest. A repository of stickies for the commonly asked questions and frequent updates could prove to be invaluable imo. Not to mention it's a more organized medium to get other discussion started. I think it would improve the traffic here, no doubt.

I'm using a Novation SL-25 and Traktor 3.3 with an external mixer. The SL is a great product, however, over extended use its clearly more practical as a production tool with the various DAW's. Thus, I've been tracking the progress of the VCI-100 and thats what brought me here (found your latest YouTube byte). I can't wait until the black version hits the shelves here in the US. It will definitely be one of my first purchases of the New Year. Unless Pioneer releases a competitively priced controller at NAMM. *keeps fingers crossed* =P

Anyways, the bonus topics I looked over here proved to be just as interesting. Your content is up to date and theres something useful here for just about anyone. A new forum would only build upon that.

I also agree it is time to implement a forum, however it is imperative to keep the articles on this page / blog. Either integrate them into the forums or just leave them aside.

I think its a must, ive found the information on here invaluble and think a forum would allow people to access past info alot easier.

Do it, man. It'll never hurt. It takes some time to take off, but once it does, you won't regret. I've been working one for months for Submusica, it's on http://www.subdjs.com (portuguese only, sorry, folks).

For the initial months you'll find yourself posting a lot, but once users adhere to it, it's going to be great. After all, all this segment of midi controllers is relegated to some product forum under a corporation umbrella, or minor sections of a broader scope site.

I think it would be very nice to see a more focused place, where those old vinyl dinosaurs won't be bitching and ranting about midi.

hey, c'mon, do it, i'm a forum junky lost in this 2.0-blog-comments game.

this blog is packed with heaps of useful information in small potent doses which can't be said of other more established mags or websites. So yeah, I vote for a dj tech tools forum.

BTW, if you need a forum to benchmark, http://www.head-fi.org is another fantastic website. A DJ version of it would be great.

Thanks for all that great feedback DbWorms, Dudu, Matt, Travis and everyone else. I agree, trying to find what you need in comments can be a pain in the ass. My only concern is that there is no way I have time to actually moderate a forum. With all my club gigs, I barely have time to write all these posts, let alone keep up with a forum.

Well enough complaining, i am off to shop for a good forum!

As regards your schedule difficulty, the only answer can be a series of tests of trust and fidelity for an upstanding member here to mod it.

As for moderators… that would be a personal choice if you would like to have some assistance from users you trust.

I have been thinking really hard about this thing and it seems to me that a blog can be turned into a forum. Why not keep the info centralized if you can- it just accessing it that needs to be improved. So if you could do the following things from the front page- would we not essentially have a forum?

1) subscribe via email to certain posts for updates (easy)

2) a list of the most recently commented posts (easy)

3) a list of the top 5 most popular posts (doable)

is there anything else a forum is capable of doing that needs to be included?

Actually a forum 'works' completely different, but I know what you mean.

In a certain way, that is what I suggested in my post when you asked our opinions about a forum.

But you will find that most of the world renown companies uses vBulletin.

It also has one of the best (if not the best) support in the industry.

You can purchase customized templates, modify it, or just create yours, etc. Basically tailored as you like.

Forums are good for a lot of reasons find or ask about things and ideas your wondering about, but whatever you do make it relevant DJ topics skip the filler. The thing I like most about this site is it's on point about what people want to know and hear about without all the fluff. We just want to know about DJ software and hardware particularly midi solutions and ideally ones with midi I/O.

I completely agree with Chris' words. For instance, you can have a several forums areas… example. -DJ Tutorials-, -The Midi Corner-, -Digital Gear-, -Controllerism-, etc and have subforums within those and start populating from there.

This is just an example… there are many other ways you can configure the forum(s), especially if you plan to integrate it with a blog, or a portal.

Sections of interest to me would be tutorials, software, and hardware circuit bending, controllerism, midi options, computer gear, system optimizations, hardware and software comparisons, reviews, pluggins & effects, and custom presets among others. Try to keep it organized like you would your music it's awful when a forum feels like a maze and once again skip/cut the completely unrelated filler.
