Nice info, but some questions:

1. Why do i need a ground loop isolator when my laptop is not earthed (the earth is in the power supply and doesn;t make it up to the laptop itself)

2. I know the lack of grounding is causing issues - so how do i ground my laptop?

3. I've tried the phono-socket ground loop isolators before and they knock out a tonne of base, like they are just low freq filters - anyone else experience this?

Thanks

I've used "Powerstand", a Swedish invention. Don't know how much international coverage it gets, but its design beats all out there since it's light-weight and takes almost no space when folded underneath the laptop.

And i don't get any commision, just a pleased end-user ;)

Not sure if anyone noticed but some time after I wrote this article uberstand was bought out by Stanton. Now that stand can be purchased directly from stanton. I checked it out and they made one minor improvement but no major changes.

i use now a noise filter called Phonocar Zuberhor. This device, by de-coupling the amplifier ground imput, carries out an efficient suppression of the shielding disturbances generated by the ground 'loop' that may occour whit car and laptop audio system.

Check out www.xtstand.com - not as fully featured as other laptop stands, but extremely portable.

As for backpacks, the best one I've found is the Axio Fuse. I'm able to fit a MacBook and a MacBook Pro with various cables in this backpack, and it's also very comfortable to wear as it distributes the weight very evenly. You can find them online at www.rushfaster.com.au

Between the Axio and a UDG record bag I can carry everything I need for my Ableton Live / Traktor sets.
